my dr. has prescribed triamterene-hctz for meniere's disease and recomments cutting the tablets in half. is this okay? i ask because mayo clinic says do not cut or chew these. i'm also taking meclizine 25 when dizziness strikes and again my dr. says to take 1/2 or 1 whole as needed. does anyone else use these for meniere's? thanks

Why don't you send an e-mail to the drug manufacturer and ask their opinion?

Better yet, ask the pharmacist

@cherylf2 could you ask the doctor to prescribe you something that doesn’t need to be cut in half?

If they are time released you cannot cut the in half. That will give full amount at once ( or close to the full amount anyway) . They are meant to dissolve slowly. Biting or breaking them will break that coating. If they are not, then you can cut them.

@cherylf2, welcome. I agree with the comments that others have posted. Please check with the manufacturer or your pharmacist before cutting tablets.

I'm tagging a few members like @joyces @passerby @eagleputton18 @morninglory @estrada53 who also have Meniere's disease and can comment on treatments they may know about and if they are familiar with diuretics triamterene and hydrochlorothiazide or the antihistamine meclizine for use in the management of Meniere's.
