What Covid treatments can transplant patients take?

Posted by hello1234 @hello1234, Mar 21, 2023

Hi Transplant Friends! 😊
I hope all is well with everyone. I am just curious if anyone has caught covid lately. Now that Evusheld and the monoclonal antibodies are no longer effective treatments, does anyone know what covid treatments may be effective for us to take?
Thanks everyone!

Congrats on your new liver transplant! It sounds like you are taking excellent care of yourself and your new organ. It's wonderful to hear that you doing so well and you are back to work full time. Do you work remotely or do you work in a job that has you interfacing with the public? It sounds like you are also very careful to protect yourself from germs and covid.
I think you have a fantastic attitude regarding taking care of yourself. I am happy that you jumped in to this discussion!

Hi @cmael
It is wonderful to hear from you.
I am so sorry to hear that you and your husband had to go through such a terrible time with covid! I am sure you were you very frightened when you had covid and then you had to call an ambulance for your husband. What a horrible experience for you both. It sounds like you are both improving, but you are still not fully recovered after two weeks.
I am surprised to learn that your local hospital could not provide the Remdesivir infusions?.
Is Remdesivir the type of treatment that is only available to us through the transplant centers?
It sounds like the oral Molnivipiravir was helpful as a second choice.
Sending a BIG HUG 🥰 and I am hopeful that you are both able to continue to rest and recover now that hubby is back home.
PS. My BK virus is now negative in the blood!

Hello1234
We live in a small town and in the country. The local hospitals are not that large. I had to go the a hospital in a Minneapolis suburb, which is over an hour away, for my Evushield infusions. The last one I had done in January. I know they are no longer considered effective. I feel that I was doing well recovering from a moderate case of Covid, until hit with the stress of my husband getting it. I’ve had a setback with a chronic cough, although I know that many people who have normal immune systems, have the Covid cough for a long time after. It’s more of an annoying dry tickle.
I’m happy to hear your BK virus is now negative.

Hi

Thanks for the compliments. Hope all is well.
I am not sure if I taking excellent care but do try however. Post transplant aspects of the surgery is brutal. When we had the discussions with the surgeon prior to the surgery, it was emphasised very well. It is so true. Checking the calories, no salt , no sugar, fiber, measure your portions, workout and stay out of crowds. It is too much. But that is life. It is my choice to adhere to the plan , or just let it go. If thats the case I will be a major dissapointment to my family, my donor, all my friends and the Hospital personnel who helped me. It is tough, but thats what I am left with. I dont think about it much, but be gratefull that I am allowed to live one extra day.
By profession I am a Systems Engineer work on a Federal Goverment Contract. My HQ is located in Washington DC. I used to live in Northern Virginia and moved to Florida couple of years ago and work remotly from my home office. Take care
