COVID-19 & Prior Stroke

@krdonbus10 Hi, we are not docs here, and are not familiar with your health history, so can't answer specifically, but in general rick factors for Covid-19 seem to be age, lung problems, conditions that suppress the immune system, diabetes and heart conditions. It seems the more the risk factors or greater the age, the higher the risk of serious complications. This is not a complete list more is being learned each day.
If you are concerned about your risk profile and whether you need to take extra precautions, you should contact your primary care provider.

Hi @krdonbus10, what type of stroke did you have and how long ago? How is your general health now?

I had my Stroke in Sep 2019. From the scans This was my 2nd one. The other was a silent stroke and have no idea when that happened. They couldn’t figure out what caused it and assumed Afib but after going to Mayo In Jan 2020 they diagnosed it as microvascular ischemic Disease also known as Cerebral small vessel disease. Im 61 and other than getting use to my new normal my general health is good.

Hi, Krdonbus, I'm 76 and had a stroke three years ago. Thought it was a TMI until I drove myself 20 miles to cardio and learned that I'd had a "full blown stroke". Surgery 30 days later on the right carotid artery and almost a full recovery. While the experience was unnerving at the time, I was so fortunate to have regained my speech and use of my right hand/arm fairly quickly. I still sometimes have pauses when under stress when speaking and now I manuscript printing vs cursive but my cursive wasn't that legible before...vbg Good to meet another who knows the "stroke experience" first hand.
