COVID-19: Grocery Shopping and Take Out Food

Posted by Teresa, Volunteer Mentor @hopeful33250, Mar 26, 2020

Most likely when/if we need to buy groceries we always wipe down the cart handles with an antiseptic wipe. However, how do you protect yourself when you bring those groceries into your home? I just viewed this video from a physician in Grand Rapids, Michigan who offers some suggestions. Perhaps you will not find all of these suggestions helpful or practical, but I learned a lot. Here is the link to this YouTube video,

My daughter sent me the link too. Why did he bring all the bags into his house? If there are virus on the bags, they are flying around into his face! I don't bring bags into my house, I leave them outside for a few days. Then he opened the box of cereal and reached in to get the bag out. I did not see him wipe the bag down.. He could have transferred virus from box to bag! Overall good advice.. I do the best I can, I'm stressed as it is..

@mayofeb2020, Good catch! If you recall he did suggest leaving the grocery bags outside for several days before bringing them inside. These bags were probably left outside for a while. Yes, we are all doing our best, but it is stressful as you say!

Unfortunately my garage is not attached to my condo, so leaving it outside is difficult because it's been raining. We do have rabbits and squirrels around. I used to have a family of possums living under my deck. I don't have the luxury of leaving any food outside for a few days!

@mayofeb2020 Yes, I'm in a similar situation. Not everything he suggested is practical for everyone, but nonetheless there are some good ideas that I had never thought of before I watched the video.

It looks like the link produces the YouTube video, not sure how to fix it.

Thank you for the link; I tried it on google and on the utube site but the utube site showed the word "filter" at top and no results. Can jot down the main ideas to ff to friends and family. Thank you for responding...perhaps the code was just too long to bring up the video?
