Continued Post-Nasal Drip and Constant Mucus in Throat

Posted by adominic @adominic, Mar 22, 2022

I was sick the last week or January/first week of February. Home Test-negative, rapid PCR-negative. All COVID symptoms and known prolonged exposure to infected individuals make me believe it was COVID. Since then, I have had a tremendously hard time dealing with post-nasal drip and mucus collecting in my throat. It is clear, sticky and almost impossible to remove from throat by coughing or clearing my throat. Flonase does nothing, allergy pills do nothing. Had anyone else had an issue like this post COVID? How long did it last? What did you do to cope? Small problem in comparison to others that post here, I realize.

My pulmonologist suggested Mucinex for the small mucous plugs that I have has since getting covid 22 months ago. After 2 weeks, it’s definitely helping.

How long did you use Flonase. I used it for two weeks and it really didn’t help. I tried azelastine and thought that helped a bit but it never goes away completely and it’s an all day annoying thing

I also tried nasal irrigation, Flonase and Singulair. At the same time….
Unfortunately it did not work. It’s the 24 hours a day that drives me nuts. Never thought I was capable of producing so much mucous.

I’ve had these symptoms since having the COVID vaccine in December 2021.
It was my 3rd . I had it with the first 2 but it went away on its own. But it has never gone. I use nasal sprays and nasal rinses which help but nothing has cleared it up completely.
I wish I’d never had the 3 rd vaccine.

I’ve had the thick mucous since having COVID in Jan 2022. Never completely goes away & sometimes scary because I feel like I can’t breathe.

same here. I feel terrible (literally) for being a guinea pig for these shots. I had two pfizer shots two weeks apart in April 2021 (i think that's when the vax came out).
Every day and night I snort and breathe in the back of my throat and there is something there. It feels like I swallow, nothing ever comes out, but a few minutes later, it's back again. After doing this a few times, whatever was in my sinuses is in my chest/throat and I have to try to clear my throat. There is definitely something there when I clear my throat, but I never comes up or out. My chest aches along with my lower back and upper left shoulder blade. This isn't getting better, maybe a little worse each day. Feels like I'm drowning sometimes.

Good idea. I started taking singulair today. I read about the side effects. It kind of freaked me out but anyone I know that has taken it didn’t experience any of them. Have you?

My primary care prescribed my singulair when I first went in with post nasal throat clearing chest aching symptoms. I was nervous to try bc I read the side effects. After months of frustration of the constant throat clearing and mucus in the back of my nose/throat, I decided to try singulair for a few weeks. This did not improve my symptoms at all. I stopped taking it.

My doctor described singulair as "Exercise related asthma medicine". Doctors seem eager to throw meds at symptoms without doing appropriate testing first. I can run just fine with zero breathing issues.

I have no clue if this will ever go away.

Thanks. Right now I am on singulair for the post nasal drip issue. Only 2 days but I don’t think this is helping. Nothing has changed. Maybe I’ll try the Flonase again. I was doing Neti pot before or the Neil’s saline mist spray. After a while I was on nasal spray fatigue. I think I’ve tried them all. Happy yours cleared up. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that with the change of seasons that this will clear up. I have had it since last December so not so sure it’s a seasonal thing. I might wind up going for an endoscope.

I was first diagnosed with GERD and/or silent reflux. Omeprazole and nasal sprays and rinses. Zero improvement. I went for an endoscopy and they found "slight esophagitis". I was given a pamphlet with senior citizens on the front, it says to stop caffeine, alcohol, spicy food, nicotine, peppermint, etc.... I am 40 years old. I did however follow they doctors orders stopped all of the above. After weeks of hoping for any type of improvement, still the same stuff going on. Praying is my newest form of treatment.

I have suffered with the same symptoms for 2 years. I was treated for sinus problems, went to an ENT, put me on omeozolene and was diagnosed with LPR, medicine didn't work. Referred me to a gastrologist still on medicine. Had a cat scan, endoscopy still no relief. I have since went off the medicine feel no better nor worse. The mucus in my throat never goes away and I can never cough it up. I ordered Betaine Hydro I will try. It has been scarey, and very frustrating.

Same for me. The post nasal drip, tickle and coughing was so embarrasing. I came across a natural remedy posted by a pharmacist that seems to be working. Ponaris Nasal Emmolient (one full eye dropper) added to Nasacort 24hr allergy relief .57oz spray before I go to bed. For me, the symptoms have dimished.

Ponaris on Amazon, Costco for Nasacort, both over the counter.
