Constant tinnitus: Are there any solutions?

It there any solution for constant tinnitis?

I have high pitched tones constantly though I have learned to ignore it mostly.

It can become louder at times, even loud enough to make me wince!

ahh had a mini meltdown this evening with eustachian tube plugging up ears all week but today painful and no hope in that regard, they dont like putting tubes in old ears! plus the other ear issues; then of course the ibs/fecal incontinence worse with just a few extra veggies ... only thing for musical ear is to try and forget it or go along with it, but its the repetitive nature of it, lasts for hours sometimes... i found a good article explaining but wonder why only some of us with hearing loss get it... happy for those who dont... its just have other health issues and ageing and gets me down some times and husband ill.. as I try to joke an say to adult children, i have never been this old before (but inside am not laughing) ... am not ill enough to be in hospital/Home, but not well enough to enjoy many things I used to take for granted that's for sure! J.

I’m new to this. I have very loud ringing since my hearing loss incident. I am not sure I’ve ever gotten good advice on this. The Dr just said we don’t know how to treat it so the masking is common. I’ll follow the answers from others on this. For you to wince means you must have a real challenge. Sorry that this is the case for you.

Hi Bill, bless you as you move through the cancer. My husband had this also. Our oncologist then lowered his chemotherapy regime 10% and his ringing stopped. That was our experience and worked for him ❤️

I am facing hearing aids and I keep putting it off....sigh. I have had tinnitus for about 8 years. The right ear is a high pitched ringing and the left ear at times sounds like morse code clicking. I do find if I eat something with a lot of sodium or caffeine the tinnitus worsens. I am blessed that my brain has tuned it out, but, it has really effected my hearing. If someone has a low voice, I can't hear what they are saying often times or if the TV is on and someone is talking to me. Being in a crowd is extra hard to have a one on one conversation. God Bless You All! Growing old is not for wimps is it?

@covidstinks2023 Please don't put off getting those hearing aids. Once you adjust to them you'll be glad you have them. What you describe, is likely progressive sensorineural hearing loss. It creates a problem in noisy settings especially. Social outings get tough. While hearing aids don't correct hearing loss, they do help when they are fit properly.

Hearing loss often accompanies tinnitus. You've identified 2 of the things that often seem to relate to tinnitus; caffeine and sodium. Stress is also a causative factor. Learning to manage stress can help.

You say that you have trouble with low voices. Most people with progressive hearing loss have trouble with higher pitched voices, women and children. Has anyone on your medical team mentioned that you likely have a reverse slope hearing loss?

ah sorry , my ipad not getting all of the conversations, will have to scroll back; both husband and I have had cancer and brutal as it was and even though affected body (late stage pelvic bowel issues) seems as years go by its one thing after another - not life threatening (except when he had triple heart bypass surgery etc.) but life-altering.... as have said before I don't know how many folk "cope" with their painful and/or debilitating illnesses ... I even feel guilty when complaining about mine but added together seems happy or painless times decrease... I do try and think of those having a much harder time than me and never really accepted people saying... God gives the heaviest burdens to those who can deal with them!

Thank you. I am going to check into it soon. I have low sound hearing loss that I guess slopes downward as I can hear something and then it drops off and picks back up as an audiologist explained to me. Bless you for your sweet words of encouragement!

A discussion on tinnitus can be found in the hearing loss support group.

Just posted yesterday, is a YouTube video on a potential cure for tinnitus that has just been approved by the FDA. It will be interesting to see where this goes from here.

@julio4, volunteer mentor,
Waiting to hear if anyone has tried this. Also wondering if this presenter in the video has tried it since he was so enthusiastic.
Thanks for posting!

I’ve listened to so many of this type of thing. If it were true nobody would have tinnitus
