Communicating with friend with alzheimer/dementiaia

Posted by gmalandro @gmalandro, 1 day ago

Talking with friend when he is agitated/angry with his mate over imagined events. While i reassure him i am listening and that i support him, i dont know how to distract him or how to get him off topic without enraging him more....any advice?

I have found at those times when my husband gets hung up on something that to just walk away and give him some space helps more than anything. Once he settles down I reassure him of my love for him. It always seems to work.

Hi, this happens with my spouse. I really just keep trying to distract him and get him involved in another activity. He gets on a certain path mentally, and it's challenging to get him off that path. Sometimes I offer something to eat or drink since he's very food-focused these days. Sometimes I try and move him to another area of the house to see if that will distract him or get him off the path he's on in his mind.
Good luck!
