Thank you for posting this collagen study. It was great to read. My CTX came down by 80% after 8 months on BHRT which no doubt played a large role in this reduction. My spine T score also went from -3 to -2.6 during this same period. I have always wondered if my supplements I began taking about 7 months before starting BHRT, including 10 mg of collagen peptides daily, played any role in these reductions. After reading this study, it appears possible, at least the collagen.

@debbie1956 - Did your collagen peptides contain Fortibone?

I do not believe there is any data showing fortibone is any more effective than other collagens. It was only compared to a placebo.

@loplady, no, Fortibone is not in the ingredients. It is a Canadian company called Organika, bovine, hydrolyzed collagen peptides, grass-fed cows. I buy it from Costco.

This is a very small study, and funded partly by Gelita, the Fortibone company.
I use a product with Fortibone, but I also do a lot of other things to remain strong and avoid fracture.

What else do you do to remain strong and avoid fracture ? I’m thinking it is probably exercise and diet…

You are correct! I am 68, and trying to avoid meds as long as possible. My parents were 93 and 94 when they died, and both grandmothers were about the same age. Mom had severe osteoporosis, with multiple vertebral fractures. She fell many times and never fractured a hip. Kind of amazing. Dad fell many times in the last 2 years of his life, and never fractured. He was a lifelong exerciser. Mom never did a thing. I did start on BHRT a month ago, but the dose of estradiol is not high enough to build bone. I do feel the best I have felt in a very long time- no hot flashes, sleeping well, more energy. I really do not even know if I can build bone. I am just going for strength and balance.

You can look for posts on Collagen in Mayo Connect for more info. Supplements containing Fortibone have shown positive results in several studies. You can do a google search for more info. Below is a link to one study which has this conclusion: "the findings of this randomized, placebo-controlled trial demonstrate, that supplementation with 5 g of specific collagen peptides significantly increases bone mineral density of the lumbar spine and the femoral neck as well as blood levels of the bone marker, P1NP, in postmenopausal women with age-related decline in BMD."

I recently started taking AlgaeCal collagen powder supplement that has Fortibone. It's available on Amazon and is pricey.

I wasn't aware the study was funded by the Fortibone company. Good to be aware of.
