Co-Q 10 ton of side effects

Posted by grrranny @grrranny, Apr 16 12:31am

Anyone think their Co-Q 10 may be causing insomnia, stomach pain, diarrhea, and/or fatigue? I have all these side effects, and still suffer from my statin leg cramps at night...

@grannny Stomach pain and diarrhea are known side effects of Co-Q10, but not fatigue or insomnia.
Perhaps you would like to get a complete medication review from a trained pharmacist or nurse, who can look at all of your medications (Rx & over the counter), dietary & herbal supplements (including any herbal teas) to try to find the source of your issues. They check possible side effects of each item, and all the possible interactions between meds, supplements, etc
Medicare covers this once a year, and I use a pharmacist recommended by one of my docs. Over the years, this has led to discontinuing or changing the dosage of several meds and supplements, and recommendations to my doctors for better options for a few of my health issues.
Have you ever had a full medication review?

I had insomnia and anxiety from Q10. I told my pharmacist and she said q10 should be taken in the morning bc of insomnia side effects. Everyone is different, and we all react differently. It is unfortunate that some people can’t take q10. We are the rare ones.

@sueinmn
Tiredness and problems sleeping are listed on the Mayo website under "Safety and Side Effects" regarding Co-Q10, as well as loss of appetite -- which I also have: https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements-coenzyme-q10/art-20362602

Try Magnesium for the cramps.

@lenmayo Thanks; I take magnesium, and tonic water with quinine, too, for the leg cramps.

@grrranny have you tried a teaspoonful of prepared yellow mustard (the kind used on hotdogs)? It works for me when I have a leg cramp. Learned this from a friend who takes this for muscle spasms.
