Chronic Pain, alternative Treatment

Posted by CiPaul @cipaul, Jul 11, 2017

I have had chronic pain for 17 years. I know what I'm going to say will be met with doubt, but please try what I say, even though it is not completely backed up by sceince. I was on heavy doses of OPIOIDS for 16 years with no help, relieveing my pain, then I started to take Kratom, for the last year I have been Pain Free!!! If you try it , you will have to try different strains, to find out what works best for you

Thanks ! I just have never heard of this and was curious, I have chronic back ache every day , I take tramadol and gabapentin, muscle relaxant but it doesn’t do much good. Just takes the edge off . Is it a herb ?

Yes it is a nutural plant based substance usually sourced from Indonesia, Malaysia or Thailand. Technically it is not banned by the federal government or put on the DEA’s schedule of potential addictive and dangerous substances such as heroin and cocaine. That said, it is in fact illegal in I think six states and a few partial states. In truth no one is really sure if it is in fact addictive or dangerous for you. Unlike marijuana it does operate on the same brain receptors as prescription opioids do and in my experience has a very similar effect. Please google the word Kratom and do your own research, it is available on the Internet from a number of different providers and is usually consumed as capsules or as a powder mixed with water or another beverage. Personally I think it works incredibly well for pain but I am remaining cautious as well and hope more conclusive studies will be conducted soon.

Works wonders on me with severe pain for years. I take small amount in evening as it also relaxes and helps with insomnia. NO SIDE EFFECTS! Just take small amount. Tramadol and Ibuprofen has eaten up my stomach. THIS IS MY LIFE SAVER! Bless you all.

As far as I know, They did not ban the product. I know they tried but did not it banned. It is NOT addictive. Just like the stories of Marijuana this is a ploy to tell you how bad something can be without facts. Some people are addictive people. I never got addicted to Marijuana and I seriously think I would have any issues with Kratom. One of my pills I get through a prescription has gone up to just under 200.00. I cannot afford that. So I would turn to Marijuana if it were legal in Texas. My prescriptions are many and I reach the doonut hole by Sept 1. The government has NO right to tell us what we can or cannot take. I see doctors at the University and after about 1.5 years, I am beginning to feel I know more than they do. They TEST TEST TEST Today, I found out why I was not getting any relief from my shots in my neck and back. BECAUSE, they preform graduated tests to see which drug helped with your pain. Since none of them helped me....I guess I failed. Instead of helping my entire body aches for two days after the shots.

Hi, @oregongirl and @lioness. I am sorry that you both are experiencing so much pain.
I totally get it. This year it almost seems like the more medicine I take, the worse pain I experience. I just spent two days with my young friend at the UAB Hospital Medical Center for a gazillion doctor's appointments.

I found myself taking much less medicine for my Fibromyalgia, Spinal Stenosis, Degenerative Disc Disease, Arthritis, Plantars Fasciitis, Carpal Tunnel, and Muscle Spasms. And more supplements, such as Magnesium and Turmeric. I did not wear my brace, neither did I use my cane. Going from appointment to appointment, I had to pack really light. In order to accommodate for Water, Phone, and other necessary items one would need throughout the day.

Except for not having the option of lying down during the middle of the day, I did better using less meds and more supplements. The walking helped strengthen my back, I believe. Plus the endorphins, helped my mood.
This may not be for everyone, but for me personally, my doctors give me the leeway to take a minimum dosage and a maximum dosage. I freely take advantage of this. Plus, I am going to enforce much stricter rules about exercise. I have known all along that it is helpful in reducing pain levels, But isn't it so hard at times to force ourselves to exercise when pain is intolerable? Such is life, they say.

"Talk" to you dear people later!

Thanks for the info ... I did look at your link you sent and course it was written in words that sounded a little scary as for as being addictive but don’t suppose we’re suppose to take any of it along with ours pain meds I’m already taking huh ?

No natural or herbal substances should ever be taken in conjunction with prescription medication unless okay’d by your doctor.

I strongly recommend that you not take any other drug (OTC or prescription) or supplement with your current medications unless you discuss it with your pharmacist and get their OK first. That includes CBD, THC, as well as Kratom. Since Kratom is thought to be opioid like in its addiction properties, I won't try it myself until it has been studied more and we are sure of its safety. I recommend that you not take it at this point either.

I know the information about Marijuana was all bad at first, but over the years it became widely used by so many people that the fear tactics were disproved. I know that Kratom is compounded in other countries so we don't know what else is in the dose or what level of dose you are taking. I think there is no "magic" pill that will relieve all our pain. A combination of exercise if possible, manipulation, massage, heat, ice, topical salves, meditation, acupuncture, etc. along with pain and antidepressant medications are the best ways to relieve pain. Now,due to medical advances we can be DNA tested to find the best medicine for our gene type and metabolism. This is truly remarkable to me, and I will be requesting this test at my next doctor's appointment this month.

Your willingness to try new things is commendable, just proceed cautiously please. Hoping for effective, safe pain relief for you.

Ok thanks Gail I wasn’t planning on ordering the kratom but since it was something I’d never heard of I was curious about it , that is good that we can be tested by our dna what kind of Dr does that ? I know by experience that I can’t take some of those opioids they either make me sick or make me feel weird. Chiropractor doesn’t help much and the shots didn’t help , I do take antidepressants, I think it helps me in some way , my back needs rods but at my age I don’t want to do it , I wear a brace that helps a lot and stretch and tramadol gabapentin muscle relaxants so If I don’t overdo it I can live with this . Thanks for the recommendations
