Chinese herbal medicine support for MAC treatment

Posted by winema @winema, Jun 17, 2025

Has anyone tried herbal support for immune system and lung health? Traditional Chinese medicine apparently includes several herbs which have been researched and found helpful as adjuncts to the typical NTM meds. Here's an article from NIH (link below). I don't have the expertise or patience to wade through all the technicalities of the studies, but found the results interesting, and wonder if anyone has tried any. The one I'm looking into is Astragalus membranaceus. I'm not interested in high dosages sold in capsules by various companies which may or may not be reliable; Astragalus can be consumed as a tea. Would love to know what others might have learned or tried.

@sueinmn i specifically mentioned FOOD GRADE hydrogen peroxide, very different than regular. it is taken in drops in certain quantity of water. if you read any books by doctors or authors mentioning doctors from the 50s and 60s, it was not uncommon for it to be used for infection and other ailments. I'm surprised no one on the forum has not heard of, or used it.

@akron3, please note that even food grade hydrogen peroxide should not be ingested.

The term "food grade" can be misleading, possibly making it sound like it is safe as food. It is not safe to swallow.

Food producers use 35% H2O2 for various purposes, like bleaching flour. And you may have seen peroxide in some dental products like toothpaste. However, no matter the dilution, even 35% H2O2, you should never drink any hydrogen peroxide.

Swallowing food grade H2O2 can cause serious side effects, including sore throat, abdominal pain. nausea, vomiting or possible internal bleeding.

@tufty No, I'm in Scottsdale, AZ. I was lucky when I started looking for an acupuncturist, I found the Eastern Medicine Center less than 1.5 miles from my home. I never did start acupuncture there since the supplements resolved my fatigue issues.

@colleenyoung I don't know who puts out the info. (health doctors) you're referring to, but read the book the one minute cure by m. cavanaugh, or books by Dr David Brown stein or Dr wm. Campbell douglas who've had actual clinical experience with patients using it. other than that, it would be naturopaths, holistic Drs who've had experience with recommending it or doing I.v.s with it.

@tufty For fatigue, I take SOL GOGO supplements and for clearing my body of toxins and improving immunity, I take the SOL LIVER supplements. I was told that in my case "SOL IMMUNITY" would not help what I needed-as for immunity. Last year, I was pretty bad off and was taking 4 each, 2/day. The GOGO, I could not take past noon, so I took 4 at 6 AM and 4 at noon. If I took at say 2 PM, I would not be able to sleep. I did stop taking them for a while and the fatigue crept back in. Now, I am taking 2-3 of the GOGO early in the morning and 2 at noon. When my fatigue goes away, I will back down to 1-2, 2/day. I hope this helps.

@akron3 Perhaps this may help in understanding what hydrogen peroxide does. I had some 2 % H2O2 spill on a suede vest and it literally ate a hole in the vest. H2O2 is very reactive as it gives up the extra oxygen molecule to become water. It denatures proteins. Now consider that proteins are the building blocks in your body and cellular structure. My vest being leather is made from the collagen protein of the cow hide. The reactivity makes it a great disinfectant, but you don’t want to inhale the mist if you are spraying it or swallow it. I had a dentist who had me rinse my mouth with it at appointments and spit it out which I disliked.

@tufty PS: The Eastern Medicine Clinic dr did recommend other more traditional, Chinese herbs but I could not consume due to the putrid/gaging taste. So, I now purchase the SOL Nutrition supplements. In the case that my fatigue/infection worsens, the recommendation is that I capsulate their recommended herbs-which is a tedious process. What your describing, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the GOGO supplements which is a combination of B vitamins/herbal supplements. I also listen to Andrea Kennedy (and others) Distance Reiki Healing YouTube videos.

@tufty Just noticed, I didn't give you enough info. It's called SOL NUTRITION. The doctor at the clinic here, formulated the supplements. Her name is Dr. Liu Jing. Thought it had B Vits but looking at bottle it contains: Astragalus root, Ren shen root, Eleuthero, Tongkat Ali, Honey Fried licorice root, Ashwaganda, Rhodia, Rehmannia root.
