CBD pre-transplant?

I currently being monitored (not listed yet) by Mayo Jax for possible Lung Transplant in the future. I have NSIP with fibrosis, plus Bronchiectasis. I have a hard time sleeping at night due to the amount of mucus that I get in my airways from the Bronchiectasis. Does Does anyone know if Mayo Jax allows patients to try CBD Gummies only!!!! To help with sleeping. No THC in the gummy. I asked my social worker and she wasn’t sure, wrote to my transplant coordinator but haven’t heard back yet. Didn’t know if anyone has had this experience. Thank -you.

You bring up a great question that has a really tough answer that does not seem to fit all. Members have talked about cannabis and transplant in the following discussion, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/smoking-cannabis-post-transplant/, although that discussion focuses on smoking cannabis vs. CBD gummies without THC.

It may be a cliche, but you have taken the right step in reaching out to your transplant coordinator. Because medications and supplements have such a vast array of contraindications, it is smart to wait for guidance.

@athenalee and @seventhson89 discussed CBD in the above discussion and may have some updated experiences to share with you. Another over the counter option would something like a melatonin, but you'd still need to converse with your transplant coordinator to check for any possible drug interactions.

My medical cannabis doctor gave me some information I did not like, but had to swallow anyway. Cannabis and Coumadin do not play well together. At the start of my work ups I had to stop all medical cannabis. This medicine is from vetted, state licensed dispensary. Post transplant she had no experience with, but did advise to abstain until more facts were available regarding immunotherapy drug contraindications . Many other details on this and my experience. As stated above, your primary care at Jax and your medical cannabis doctor are the best resources. My delivery route was oral. Smoking it is too hard on my lungs. We make our own ointments from thc oils . Edibles are purchased at licensed dispensary. RSO is what was taken. Too much information to share here, but follow your medical professionals advise. Hth
