Cardiologist wants me to have an ablation.

My cardiologist found I have a perforated secondary artery in my leg. The perforation is down low. He says the perforation is causing either reflux or regurgitation higher in my leg which is causing pain. Prescribed compression stockings. They helped for about 6 months and now do absolutely nothing. He said I need an ablation. How bad would it be if I don't? I need to find a new cardiologist and don't know how long it will be before I can be seen.

The ablation would be for an arrhythmia, not for the perforated secondary artery. He feels you are a good candidate. What is your understanding? Why do you feel his/her advice is not warranted or needs a second opinion?

@gloaming looking for a new provider because my current one has canceled the procedure twice now for personal reasons. I just want to figure out if it would be a bad thing to not do it.

@kmw92366 you might want to check if there’s a similar group for folks w problems w leg veins and artery circulation to get better info. There’s a thing called perforator veins but I’m totally in the dark re how you could have a perforated artery. Maybe ask your doctor to spell it out for you in plain language. Best of luck.

@kmw92366 Please see this:

'Ablation' is not mentioned among the listed potential treatments for your condition. An ablation is a procedure where energy is applied to endothelial tissue to scarify it, to make lesions there. It is done, for example, to stop the left atrium in the heart from fluttering or fibrillating, each a form of tachyarrhythmia. It isn't, to my limited understanding, done in lower body vasculature.

I believe that you need a new assessment and evaluation from another Cardiologist from a reputable establishment with a full explanation of the treatment plan

I have contacted another highly recommended cardiologist's office. I have to see if they are taking new patients. If so, I will have all of my records transferred over and see how the new provider will want to proceed. I just cannot deal with a provider having to do personal stuff on the days that are set aside for procedures. He does not do them daily. He does all of them on 3 days a week.
