Can you help with my being unable to take deep breath?

Posted by cekkk @cekkk, Feb 3 1:30pm

About a month ago I felt something in left lung, I'm guessing) and have begun to cough out any attempts to take a full breath. Not flu, covid or pneumonia. Nights cause coughing, maybe fluids. I'm in hospital awaiting xray. It hasn't changed from Day 1. 83 years old. Otherwise healthy with usual old man problems. I can't be the only person with this problem.

hey, cekkk, glad you are in hospital to figure it out. There are not fun choices to be had in a differential diagnosis.
I take it that your blood work isn't indicating a problem. but how long have you been in. Sometimes it takes a long while , weeks even, to grow out a sputum specimen.
You may have breathed in a feather or something or could be an embolism. Best to be on a mucus plug. https://www.sciencealert.com/man-develops-rare-case-of-feather-duvet-lung-from-his-feather-bedding
You'll find out something pretty soon. Let us know. Hoping for something easy to resolve.

The hospital is where we get xrays in our town. Hope they'll show something.

oh, so it may be a while. How do you know that you don't have an infection.
It could be cardiac, but with so little information guessing can be scary.

@cekkk, I added your question to the Lung Health group. How are you doing? Did they figure out what was going on?

It's not clots. Seeing an pulmonologist the 27th.

You may be suffering from anxiety as I do. You might ask your pulmonologist. There are medications out there that can help.

Thank you for your thoughts. I hope you have years of good health.
