C Diff PCR results

Posted by 5chances @5chances, Jan 9 7:05pm

Hi all, my GI tested me (PCR only) and it came back positive. He does not preform EIA (toxins) testing. I have no loose stools but still have fatigue, stomach feeling super full after eating and most of the time no appetite although I still push myself to get in at least 1500 calories a day (sometimes 2000 by the hardest). I actually went from 96-100 pounds in a couple of weeks but I’m now fluctuating between 98-99lbs.

How am I supposed to know if I require further treatment without toxin testing? How do I know that I do not have an active infection? I’m so anxious with all of this. I’ve read many times people are active but do not have diarrhea and need treatment.

Thanks

Side note, I’m 7 weeks post vanco

Hello It will take a while for your stomach to regulate. I felt all these symptoms still 3 months after CDIFF. The feeling full and no appetite and the nausea. I am now 5 months post antibiotic and still feel awful some days and I still don’t have a great appetite and get the dull stomach pain this is all inflammation from the infection.
How many bowel movements are you having per day? It is a good sign that your stool is not loose but even if they are loose doesn’t mean there is an infection it will take time.
Are you taking any probiotic and are you watching your food? What’s your diet like?

Hi, and thanks for responding. I have 1 to 2 bowel movements in the morning, on rare occasion 3. Quite honestly my diet is horrible. Potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans, eggs, oats, kefir, kraut, almond butter, pasta, bananas, peeled apples, orgain protein, collagen, bone broth, avocado sorts of things.
I do take Jarrow s. Boulardii, klaire labs vital 10, and align every few days along with digestive enzymes and I add high resistance potato starch to smoothies.

I did test positive and it kind of scares me due to the fact that after 2 months I still have odd symptoms.

It will take a while for your body to regulate. I am 5 months post cdiff and still not feeling great. I recommend seeing a nutritionist to help you with the food. I have been seeing one and it definitely does help. But again it will take time I am still not feeling perfect and have similar bowel movements to yours mostly 2 to 3 per day. Do you have nausea at all?

I am seeing a dietitian currently. She is focusing more on gut healing right now, slippery elm, marshmallow root. I reached out to her about the positive PCR and we were going to do biocidin and gi detox to try and get rid of it, but I’m worried it stirs up another infection.

The slippery elm and marshmallow root will help with the leaky gut and inflammation I have taken GI revive worked with a naturopathic doctor and I was on that. And we did as well a herbal anti microbial after my second round of antibiotics because I was still feeling awful and my stool wasn’t right. But now I am only still taking probiotic and prebiotic powder for two weeks only because I am trying to stay away from gluten.
Go with what your gut tells you and what you feel comfortable with only you know your body and will start knowing what works and what doesn’t, every person is different and responds differently to supplements. Did you ask your doctor about the GI detox?? Maybe you want to check with your doctor on that… good luck and please keep me posted with the results and what you decide.

Did you have negative pcr before starting gi detox? This scares me due to the fact that I’m still positive pcr. I read that biocidin can also kill off good bacteria and someone mentioned that it caused cdiff to get worse due to this. That’s really scary!

Heard good thing about both. I would check with your doctor first and see what he says because any antimicrobial could kill good gut bacteria. I have never done a PCR test only repeated the toxin test twice and came back negative this was after I did the antimicrobial.
Is the PCR a regular stool test as well? Do you experience nausea sometimes?? Because I still do sometimes and no appetite sometimes still there.

Doctor doesn’t help me any and rarely returns calls. Trying to make my way with all the helpful advice from fellow cdiff community as we understand what it’s like to deal with it daily.
PCR is the regular stool test but Durant test for toxins.
Yes, still experiencing some nausea (especially in the mornings) and the appetite is like you said, hit or miss. But when I eat, I become super full (but I do indeed eat when the hunger hits). I was able to go from 96lbs to 99/100 in 2 weeks time.

*doesnt test for toxins

What antimicrobials did you supplement if you don’t mind?

It was from designs for Heath GI microbx but even this kill good gut bacteria because it is antimicrobial so I wouldn’t suggest it since you are already 7 weeks post antibiotic. I took this when I was only two weeks post antibiotic. It took me good 4 month to stop experiencing the nausea in the morning it woke me up at 5 am. And even until now I experience it sometimes and the loss of appetite. Feeling full it is all the inflammation in your stomach caused by the cdiff infection. the slippery elm and marshmallow root you are taking will help it is like a powder I took called GI revive. I know what you mean about doctors I had to do everything on my own and with the help of asking people. Naturopathic helped me a lot. Seems your stool is not bad and this is a good indication. If you had an active infection you would be going more to the bathroom. But all what you are feeling I felt for good 4 month and now still not feeling great still dealing with it. Give it time. Heard from others it would take several months until your body adjust. Please keep me posted what you decide to do.
