Bullectomy?

Posted by capnjack @capnjack, Dec 14, 2025

I'm thinking that I'm a possible candidate for a bullectomy (lower lobes are "black holes"), although some of my reading indicates that I'm "too old". Any insight or experiences would be welcome.

Thanks for sharing? I've been researching trying to get more info about bullectomy and how to know if you are a candidate for it. Just recently diagnosed and the pulmonogist explained it as a blister on the lung but won't remove unless it gets really big. Have you had this a while?

@dnsubs11 I've had emphysema for years. Quit smoking on 12/15/20 after several "temporary" quits, this time was (is) the last time. Pulmonologist showed me x-rays that appeared to show what I now understand to be bullae in my lower lungs. I have a regular periodic appointment with him on Tuesday, Feb. 3, and I will ask him if I'm a candidate for this. I'm hoping to find a surgeon that will do this with a local anaesthesia, minimize hospital stay, and get back on my feet pretty quickly. I'll post the results of my appointment.
