Bronchiectasis what are the stages and symptoms

Posted by raney @raney, Oct 18, 2021

I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis about the time that Covid hit the US and the pulmonologist are overworked, so I have lots of unanswered questions. I also am taking Bisoprolol Fumarate 2.5 mg (a beta blocker) for heart issues. This is the 3rd cardiac med that has been prescribed in hopes of finding something that works with heart and does not interact with pulmonary meds.
Is there away to shorten the time of treatment?
1. Will I have to spend 3 hours 2 X a day for the rest of my life with nebulizer treatments, smart vest, gargles and nasal washes?
2. Is there anyway to shorten the time of nebulizer. (I have been prescribed (a) Levalbuterol which I can not use because it makes breathing more difficult (b) Sodium Chloride 7% (c) Budesonide all by nebulizer.
I use Aerobika and Smart Vest at intervals during nebulizer treatment.

Wow! I must have the last of the "good ones". I'm going to take care of this baby. Twenty minutes is outside of my attention span.

Raney, when you think that, pursing your current regimen, you’ve reached a “steady-state” with acceptable symptom control, you might begin gradually diminishing the time spent on one element of the regimen (e.g., the one you find most onerous.)
I did this and eventually totally eliminated use of the percussion vest. I now am getting along okay using nebulizer-only along with 7% saline solution. I do it twice daily. Supported of course by my “Dudley DoRight” daily lifestyle😂. It takes a tad over 20 minutes to neb an ampule of saline

Oops, make that “pursing,”…”pursuing.

Sue, you are such a great resource. We are lucky to have you.

My Nac order arrived from Swanson yesterday . I admit that I was skeptical because every other place said it was out of stock and Swanson said it was backordered. But it is here just as they promised.

Thanks.

Here is what I use now. Swanson supplements are well rated for containing the listed ingredients and strength.

I cannot tell a difference from the Jarrow I used before.

Rainey- I continue to use both. I have used Mucinex faithfully for 35 years to keep fluid from accumulating in my ears.

N-acetyl-cysteine, a supplement with antiinflammatory properties. It is helpful in keeping mucus thinned, and helping avoid the typical exacerbation of Bronchiectasis or COPD.
