Bronchiectasis & Supplemental Oxygen
My Mom has been in the hospital for a week with E. coli pneumonia. They believe it comes from aspiration. Another swallow test was completed and it confirmed she’s swallowing normally. She used the supplemental oxygen the first day in the hospital and hasn’t used it until yesterday afternoon. We were informed as long as her oxygen is 88 or higher than she’s fine.
She was about to be discharged and when they took her off the oxygen it went from 96 to 90. Now they want to send her home with supplemental oxygen. Anyone has Bronchiectasis and use supplemental oxygen?

I have BE and am on Oxygen. They should do a thorough test to determine if you need Oxygen or not. Doctors prescribe supplemental oxygen if your blood oxygen saturation drops to 88% or below while resting, walking, or sleeping.

1 ReactionSPO2 is measured at rest, exertion (6 minute walk test) and nocturnal (overnight). Her pulminologist should order the tests and write a prescription for a home oxygen unit and possibly a portable unit

2 ReactionsI have bronchiestis and was in hospital last year with Covid. They had me on O2 and suggested I get it at home. Unfortunately it did not help my SOB when I tried to do anything physically. Normally my O2 level is around 94-95. My pulmonologist told me supplementary O2 would not help me. My O2 level is ok it's my lungs functioning at 40% that causes SOB.
