Do other long haulers suffer with brain changes? Seen any improvement?

Posted by mindig @mindig, Oct 28, 2021

Hi there,
I am new to the site and have been recommended by my Dr to reach out. I had covid19 in November, I still struggle with fatigue, body aches, shortness of breath, racing heart and cognitive brain changes which have turned my world upside down. Does any one suffer with brain changes? and have you seen improvement over time?

I don't know yet. Today is class 2 when they teach about techniques to use.

Oh yes, and the term brain fog barely captures it. I can no longer do algebra than I used every day for 40 years in my job, in my head and huge excel worksheets. It is just gone now. I have to quadruple check anything I do online, e.g. electronica tax payments. My personal meditation practice has been destroyed. I have been taking supplements recommended by a functional medicine MD for gut and brain. Gut is improving, brain is not. However, my severe headaches that I had for the first 3 months are completely gone, hurray!!!

I have had severe sleep issues brain fog rapid weight loss palpitations high blood pressure , hair loss, but the worst is waking up around 2:30, 3:30 and I can’t fall asleep because of pressure in my head . This happened after I got Covid in December with the two vaccines. I have been going from doctor to doctor with no end is sight. So far no answers from any of my doctors.

I am new to this group. I read your comments and I cried. Finally I found someone like me. I know it sounds horrific yet I have dealt with brain fog, hair loss, headaches, and severe sleep issues since I was hospitalized with Covid last October 2021 with two vaccinations. During my hospital stay the doctors kept telling me I was so fortunate cause I had “break through” Covid and the vaccinations kept me from dying. Now 6 months later I feel like dying. It was 2:00am when I got up. This 1:00-3:00am slot is the worst. No one understands. No doctors understand.

@babsh1. It is awful what we are both going through some people think it is all in your head, the doctors have know comprehension because they are not going what we are going through. I am just trying to find a reason why some days I am good and some days I am not . It is a toss of the coin how I wake up. If I wake up good one day I say to myself I have beat this but then the sob breath comes back or another sleeplessness night. The sleeplessness is the killer we can’t function without sleep, then the pressure in my head the headaches, this is not me or you. We can’t ever give up I have faith that we will get better, how long it will take I don’t know. I am with you during your sleepless nights I am with you during your depressed days where we lose hope. We are separate people yet we are one that we are both going through the same thing. If you ever need to talk to me speak to me in private I am here. I will give you my email address. Don’t ever give up my friend.

I do. Actually, everything you mentioned but the cognitive changes are probably going to end up costing me my job. RN almost 30 years. It has gotten a little better since I’ve been off work and away from the stress. Not the way I wanted to finish my career. I’ve had it twice, Sept 2020 and Feb 2022. I had 2 Pfizer vaccines in between. Very discouraging.

I read where people have much more sever problems than I having covid. One thing I just barely see is the use of exercise to help in recovery. Is physical exercise just assumed as part of you'al recovery plan? I do physical exercise and it seems to help me.

I found exercise really helps my brain fog....I use a jogging trampoline, but I struggled with balance at first. Winter forces indoor only routines. Still have smell & taste deficit. Covid lasted 3wks, February 2020.

For purposes of comparison, Did the long-haulers often have "break through" cases or were they unprotected by vaccinations?

You and me have the exact same thing!! Hugs because I know what you are going through. I have been woke today since 2 am with a severe headache and body aches. I just went back to work part time and it's killing me. I also recently started therapy at a long covid clinic to help. I also have off and on shortness of breath. This is the worse ever.

Same I have been a nurse for 10 yrs. I was off work for a bit but just went back part time. It's exhausting even doing part time.

It is hard to understand why each of us when so many others have it and seem to move on just fine. Please continue to live each day as it comes. Sleep is such a hard thing to lose. I agree. Maybe try keeping a notebook of each day. Write down how you felt that day and what you were able to do that day. You may see more progress than you think.
