Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) Surgery Options

Posted by wpasternak @wpasternak, Aug 4, 2020

I had a Urolift procedure last February for my BPH symptoms and it was a total failure. The implants are still in position though. I am looking for a different procedure to alleviate my BPH problem and Rezum seems to be a good alternative. Can it be done considering my prior Urolift procedure. If not, what would be your recommendation.

After taking Flomax for several years and dealing with the RE I decided to look at surgery. The REZUM looked like the best as the chances for complications appeared to be minimal compared to the others. I had the procedure in Rochester but it did not help much at all. The first year might have been a little better and I did discontinue the flomax but now I am up every 2 hours to dribble. Really frustrating. Then in the morning I need to take a hydrochlorothiazide for my BP and that does not help either. Sexual performance was not affected (although at 67 years of age, not as firm as the old days of course) but I need to do something. Greenlight laser, arterial ablation, urolift? What do you suggest? I am tired of waking constantly.

I had HOLEP on January 31, 2025.
I have no side effects no retrograde or impotence. If you can get this procedure, it’s the one most men recover from the fastest. Underlying conditions can cause a longer recovery. Other factors in my favor were my age 51. And I had neck preserving HOLEP. My doctor recommended taking it all out, but I took a chance and it was worth the risk. This was my personal choice. Whatever decision you make I hope you are cured as soon as possible.

Good for you! I am glad you found relief. Did you employ a certain surgeon that specializes in that?
