Blood pressure monitor while exercising

Posted by mermaid1 @mermaid1, 2 days ago

Has anyone found a way to monitor your blood pressure while exercising? I've been looking for a device or hospital so that I can do this. So far all the devices I've found say not to use while exercising.

Thanks to someone else on this discussion I've followed Dr. Prakash's research on exercise, BP, and aortic aneurysm. My ascending AA has been stable 41mm for 3 years and I am itching to go back to rowing and weightlifting. I'd like to do that safely by monitoring my BP to make sure I know my limits. Short of getting on plane to TX and parking myself in Dr. Prakash's waiting room I have not found a way to do this. I'd appreciate any info from this group.
Thanks!

There have been discussions about the topic and no one has been able to suggest a device that reliably can measure BP while exercising especially because they are very sensitive to movement.
I am a patient of Dr Prakash so I will send him a message through the portal and ask him if he knows of a device or way to properly do it

I spoke with a cardiologist at Mayo in AZ and he suggested I try to take measurements on my own. It’s imperfect and a little disruptive of your workout but at least gives you some idea about what your bp is doing while exercising. So for example, if you were rowing, get your heart rate to the max that you intend for that session, stop and quickly take your bp. It will probably take several measurements to get an accurate idea, and of course, the minute you stop, it probably also decreases along with your heart rate but it’s some insight. Good luck!

I have not found one that is reliable during exercising. There are wrist BP monitors that are fairly accurate the (cuff on your arm is still the gold standard ) that you could wear then measure when you stop that should give an idea of what your BP is at that point.

Well here is Dr Prakash’s answer (screenshot from his message) it says 1. As I asked several questions.

I had done my own research and found that there are several wearable products but they don’t mention movement or while exercising, Body movement is the main challenge. I’ve heard of people carrying a wrist device stopping and taking a measurement but wrist devices are not notoriously accurate.

If a wearable comes out that is decently accurate it will probably be easier to carry around, stopping and taking a quick measurement.
