Binocular Vision problem?

Posted by dna41 @dna41, May 14 12:33pm

I have been experiencing blurred or double vision when changing my focus from one direction to another. Opthamologist has not been able to diagnose the problem but I believe it has to do with binocular vision. Has anyone else experienced this or have a solution to it?

Never heard of it.
Does it mean you see everything very close up when they are far away?
I was using binoculars the other morning, have not used in yrs, and went dizzy from using it, thats saying a lot being severy vertigo.
I could not imagin what that is like for you.
Do you get dizzy?

No, I don't see things close up. It is more like when my eyes are looking sideways, or up and down and then look straight ahead, my vision is blurred or double. It lasts a minute or two but can be very disconcerting. It's almost like perhaps each eye is tracking differently.

If your Opthalmologist can't help you, then you should see your regular physician or ER. Mine was from a Strabismus reoccurrence (eye turn) that was born with and was surgically corrected decades ago. I ended up having surgery again on my eye muscles by Pediatric Opthalmologist (even though now Adult). There are many other causes.

Mine may be a bit different from yours, but here’s my situation. Maybe it can be useful for you. Mine started abut 3 years ago. When I would wake up, I would have double vision for a couple of minutes and then it would straighten out. My Optometrist told me as we age, our eye muscles can become weaker and upon examination, he determined that my left eye was a little slower to line up. This progressed to today where I have double vision when I look to the left or right with my head straight, all the time. A neuro-ophthalmologist diagnosed me with Sagging Eye Syndrome…weakening of the connective tissues to the eye muscles. The ophthalmologist I saw said I was atypical and consulted with the neuro-ophthalmologist who diagnosed it right away without even seeing me, My suggestion would be to see a neuro-ophthalmologist as my ophthalmologist said they are the ones who figure out the “weird” stuff. I wish you the best. Having vision issues are worrisome.

Oh, and Binocular means seeing double with both eyes. When either eye is covered, you have single vision, monocular. I have Binocular Dilopia which is double vision, both eyes.

@vettechik60 Thank you so much for your reply and explanation. You have described it perfectly! I will be looking for a neuro-ophthalmologist.

I had Strabismus Eye Muscle Surgery on both eyes in January 2024. I did not have immediate improvement. However, after 3 months I suddenly improved and no longer had any double vision. I have attached the page from my eye surgery packet that explains the procedure.

@ion What is ILM removal? I have double vision which has been increasing over the past 5 years. I have prism glasses now but my eye accommodate after a while and I just need stronger ones. I've been doing Visual Therapy which I think slows the progression (it helps train my eyes to work together -- I see fine if only using either eye at a time) but it hasn't improved it.

Hello,
ILM,is internal limited membrane.
I had it removed two years ago,the double vision( as per oftamolog)should disappear after one week. Did not,I have prism glasses now but after aprox.two hours the lines are again on top of each other and, unfortunately, looks that I don’t have other options.
It’s frustrating!
