Has anyone looked into a class action law suit regarding Benzodiazepines?

I went to an inpatient hospital for something else. I spent 20 days due to internal bleeding. While in the hospital I had given them my current prescription list when I arrived.

Well the hospital lost my list so they used a 3 year old list from a previous visit on their computer . I was not on Klonopin during that time. So when they gave me my meds according to the old list they did not give me my Clonazapan (benzo).
I take 0.5 mg in the morning along with other Psyche meds. I take 1 mg at 4:00 PM.

The hospital refused to give me any klonopin by stopping it abruptly cold turkey. They did this for 20 days. I have been on it going on 3 years. As expected, not giving me my benzodiazepine for 20 days turned into severe withdrawal symptoms. It was nightmarish and turned me into an extremely aggressive and irritated person.

I wanted to die that’s how bad it got. I pleaded with the nurses to contact the doctor to give me my klonopin. Nope, didn’t happen. Instead he gave me another benzo (adavan).

While adavan took some of the edge off. I was told it would be a 1mg tablet every 24 hours! Totally unacceptable. So the doctor said 1 mg every 12 hours. It didn’t go well. To say that I suffered is an understatement. I begged and begged for klonopin every day without success.
I returned home after 20 days and I took a 1 mg of klonopin .
Within 20 minutes I was back to my old self. A benzodiazepine addict but severe withdrawal symptoms were gone and I have been on klonopin since coming home 3 months ago.
Benzodiazepine is a dangerous drug. Wether it’s Xanax, lorazepam, (adavan) Clonazapan ( klonopin) and others I may not be aware of.

Even though they come with black box warnings, they should be taken off the pharmacy shelves and taken off the formulary lists of insurance providers. I don’t think I can even wean off it. By the way. This is my 3rd post regarding benzodiazepines. I’m all over these comments. Sorry if I repeated myself but this benzodiazepine issue is not something to take lightly.

I'm not exactly happy that it took a dozen years or so of my own diagnosing that Xanax made me have seizures regardless if I was detoxing or not. Always took responsibly, never drank on it and I've had dozens of Grand Mal Seizures turning blue several times almost dying yet no medical professional even ran that possibility by me and labeled me an epileptic immediately I haven't had a seizure since I threw my last prescription of Xanax at my doctor because it is probably the most dangerous drug that people take for whatever reasons yet they don't know exactly how dangerous it is because of the short half life. I still take a benzo but I haven't had a seizure since I've taken Xanax. So what I'm saying is by those seizures over the years I had fallen so many times dislocating both of my shoulder dozens and dozens of times each requiring surgery while I'm out on Social Security Disability at 41 years old and clean. Talk about the depression. Talk about the loved ones that I've lost due to Xanax specifically. Talk about the pain and suffering and the surgery that I need with massive recovery times? None of this means anything apparently so if this turns civil and I have to go after Teva, it's going to be a ugly ugly thing if it has to go that route because then I will start really getting real with what they have done to people and frankly don't seem to give a rat's ass either. Respectfully, Richard P Matthew Jr

We don’t take it lightly, that’s why we’re here on this forum.

I was prescribed Xanax .5 mg for sleep and took it exactly as prescribed and never abused it. After 15 years and changing doctors I was encouraged to discontinue the drug. I titrated off the drug and then that is when I experienced horrific withdrawal symptoms that made me miserable for almost two years. I suffered with everything from tremors to restless leg syndrome, anxiety, depression and insomnia. I am finally feeling well two years after stopping. This drug is harmful and I am so glad I am not dependent on it for sleep any longer. I now take a small dose of trazadone foe sleep. Do not let your doctor prescribe this drug.

A doctor told me Ativan should only be used for anesthesia purposes. It is "powdered alcohol", and is dangerous if somebody drinks alcohol with it. A therapy clinic was known for writing prescriptions for Ativan for depression. or anxiety. Many of the patients ended up having to go to rehab hospitals to withdraw. Somebody makes money. Should be outlawed.

Glad you are no longer on this drug. I think the same frankly applies to all benzos, these can be dangerous drugs for many and yet are still prescribed. I really believe most people who are on these and have been for some time are truly dependent and don't even know it. If they ever try to get off they will find out withdrawal is no fun! Best to you.

I am new to this discussion, but have been on klonopin for years in an effort to manage my anxiety. I will make it a point to watch this video later. Having said this, I know that I am very dependent on this drug, and truth be told, I cannot imagine being without it. However, I understand the dangers of becoming dependent on such medications, as well as the difficulty in getting off of them. I suppose it would serve me well to reassess my dependency on this drug and I will discuss this with my doctor during my next visit with him.
Thank you

I know that people here don’t take it lightly. Thats why I’m here. That’s not what I meant. I find that it shouldn’t be taken lightly by psychiatrists because it is still being prescribed by doctors who should, by now, recognize it’s potency and potential for harm.
Because it works they continue to prescribe it.
Prescribers should inform their patients the addictive nature of benzodiazepines and the nearly impossible ability to withstand coming off them. I would have never taken them had I known that they are addictive and nearly impossible to quit taking them.
