Bempedoic acid to lower LDL (non statin)
Good morning everyone. Has anyone being prescribed Belpedoic acid to lower the LDL and cholesterol? It is a no-statin. My cardiologist mentioned it since I can’t tolerate statins. I tried years ago Crestor 5mg but I started to feel muscle fatigue. I will appreciate if anyone has started this medication and if it is working good.
Thank you
Vivian

It seems like it is usually used as an additional drug, but can be used by those who are statin-intolerant as well. I will be asking my cardiologist about it as I have "failed" 3 statins
Thank you. I would appreciate if you would want to share what the cardiologist thinks about this medication. I have been reading about it but whzt I don’t understand is that some physicians prescribe it with statins which doesn’t make sense when the patient doesn’t tolerate them. Anyway. I will keep an eye on responses. Have a great weekend. Stay healthy and safe. Thanks. Vivian
What I understand about when a cardiologist prescribes with a statin, is that the patient can only tolerate less milligrams of a statin than they actually need. When you put these two together it can lower cholesterol to an acceptable level.
Yes - I have been on it for 2 years. I have had no side effects and it is lowering LDL I am taking Nexletol, the one without Zetia. I had side effects with all statins...
The biggest problem is getting my insurance to cover it. It requires prior approval…and I am also on Repatha - both are expensive and no generics. Other than that…I haven’t had a single problem on it. If you get on it…stay away from Cipro and other fluoroquinolone antibiotics. Can cause tendon rupture.
