I'm wondering how many of the people on the site are using AZ prophylacticly to help prevent recurrent infections. I have been on the medication for 6 months and have had noticably decrease in infections.

Who is treating you? This is not a usual protocol for managing MAC/NTM as the bacteria doesn't respond well to a single antibiotic. Typically at this point the doctor would need new CT images to compare to a year ago, and see if there is any progress. Has this been suggested/

I've used 250mg of Azithromycin for quite a few years and it has helped a lot to prevent bacterial infections.

It is being used to control your lung inflammation. It's a newish treatment for COPD. I am on it now also.

@vmorton

Just two questions-
Do you have MAC or is it for treatment of inflammation? I know we usually only hear of the Big 3 for MAC or a combination of two or three antibiotics.

If you don’t have MAC, does your pulmonologist suggest you take a break for a few months at some point during the year or are you in continuous treatment?

Thanks.

No breaks for me. It is a profilactic treatment for bacterial infection. I only have Bronchectasis, not MAC.
