From a UCLA professor of Opthalmology with a retina specialty I learned that Preservision AREDS2 slows the progression of dry ARMD into wet ARMD by 25%.

I’m not reporting my “opinion” here. This is medical science. We need to be selective about our sources.

Elsewhere in this thread, I posted a very well written article (not opinion) about how “eye vitamins” are actually not proven to prevent or slow the progression of AMD. Obviously, everyone has to decide for themselves who they’re going to listen to, what they’re going to believe, and what course of action they’re going to take for their own health. Just know that the “science” is not “settled” on this subject. And the vitamin companies have a lot to gain through various studies that “prove” their vitamin works.

If you’ll read this entire thread, you will see that the symptoms you mention can be attributed to AREDS, specifically Preservision. I’ve written about those very symptoms myself. It sounds to me like you are overdosing, particularly since you are also taking a multivitamin, which may have a dosage overlap with the AREDS. Neither my optometrist nor ophthalmologist mentioned this possibility. I was sick for a long time, getting progressively worse. I couldn’t even tolerate one AREDS a day. But as soon as I stopped taking it, the illness stopped. I just hope I didn’t do any long term damage to my body.

If you do read this thread, you’ll see that I’m also of the opinion that AREDS does nothing to help eye health or slow the progression of MD.

Hello my friend!! I am not taking multivitamin, what are AREDS? I have been on two types of eye drops, one of the three I didn't use because it had the same side effects of the frist eye drop I was taking, Latanoprost0.05% the second one was Lumigan 0.01 % but my eye Dr. wanted me to put it in both eyes twice a day. However when I looked up it clinical study and saw the side effects it had the same one as the Lantanprost, which was itchy eye lids, watery eyes that drained litterally 24/7 burning, sensitive to light, and more, so I didn't use it. Now the third eye drop is Combigan 0.2% which had my eyes loading up with water, the right more than the left. My right eye felt like it was going to burst at any moment, and it felt like a log, straw was in it as well as being sensitive to light. I stopped using it last week, and my eye feels much better, no more sensitivity to light, no more gathering of water in my eyes, they even burned. As I stated before I will be getting a second opinion.

That is exactly what I was told when I started on Areds2 years ago. I do attribute my DRY AMD to Areds2 at age 77. My mother's siblings all were blind with AMD by the time they were my age. I am lucky, I guess, becasue I have never had any side effects from Areds2. Thank you for posting accurate information re: Areds2.

My post that you replied to was written in response to a poster called Mydogsbestfriend, who described side effects he/she was having from takings AREDS supplements. These posts are on a thread entitled “AREDS 2 and Side Effects”. AREDS stands for Age Related Eye Disease Studies, and is the name of the Preservision brand of supplements that doctors recommend for people with age related macular degeneration (and possibly other eye related diseases).

AREDs also made me feel sick so I started taking "NOW Supplements, Lutein & Zeaxanthin with 25 mg Lutein and 5 mg Zeaxanthin, 60 Softgels" which mimicked the two ingredients I wasn't getting other places and does not have the ingredients that cause problems and I felt much better

Is the NOW Supplement you mention an over the counter thing? I quit all the AREDS now and have not had any gastrointestinal or other side effects, which I believe was due to the high amounts of zinc. I am taking no vitamins now except Vit D and the Rx meds for low thyroid and borderline high blood pressure (respectively 30+ years and 2 years, never had a reaction to those meds). But I have read that Lutein & Zeaxanthin are used directly by the retina so I’m willing to try those if they come with nothing else

Yes I just order it on amazon

I would not order any vitamins or health products on Amazon.
They just recently refunded customers who bought Preservision in a certain time frame from a bogus third party supplier
The product was not real Preservision. I realize this can happen anywhere for any product but Amazon is a big target for fake products
I am sure they try to list legitimate suppliers but can't always keep up. If you read through many real reviews you can see how often this happens and customers are questioning the authenticity of products they have received.
Just a thought but I am done with Amazon for any beauty products or health products that have to be ingested.

Not sure if I trust Amazon for meds though I have bought beauty items which were all authentic and fresh. Thanks
