Has anyone been taking Mirtazapine? Like to know if they have taken themselves off and how did you do it?

In 2001 I was a basket case as a result of an assault. Remeron (mirtazapine) saved my life. Because of the side effect of increase hunger I was able to eat again & also sleep again. Took 30 mg. @ 9 PM nightly. Believe it or not was on it for 20 years! But within a year of starting it ended up gaining 50 pounds & my lipid profile was awful, sky high cholesterol & triglycerides. Had to go on medication for this. Then 3 years ago my new psychiatrist felt Zoloft was safer for seniors & on 200 mg. of this for my severe panic disorder. The mirtazapine had run its course but was a miracle drug for me at that time. My then psychiatrist advised the perfect medication for my severe anxiety & PTSD. It saved me from inpatient hospitalization.

I started Mirtazapine a few weeks ago with good resuts and no side effects. Tat said, evertone responds differently to medication. Talk to your doctor about trying a different medication. I had to go through several before I found one that worked fof me. Hang in there.

Thanks again for your response. I went back to Mirtazipine 30 mg. I thought I was more anxious after taking the increased dose (30) 1 night and I decided that was not a very long trial. So I am now on day 6 of the higher dose (30) and am feeling better. I feel like it is going to work out fine. I still appreciate hearing other’s experiences with Mirtazipine. Thanks for your encouragement.

Yes, drowsiness making me feel dopey. I see my pnp tomorrow to hopefully tweak it down under 15 mg. That is a starting dose. Half a pill I think would be more better but we'll see. She's a tough cookie. I stopped group therapy as it was making me depressed. I'm on the road to happy destiny.

I took it for 6 months when I was taken off clonazepam. The psychiatrist said it would help with insomnia. It did not, but I did not have side effects either. It was a fairly low dose - and I stopped it without incidence.

I have heard the lower dose is more effective for sleep. Has anyone had this experience?

It is the only med that works for me and I tried most of them including a cocktail of more than one at a time. I take 30mg. Before bed as it does make me sleepy. Also expect weight gain but the trade off is so worth it to me. Feeling sad and hopeless is a miserable way to live. I hope that it helps you too.

Hello...l am currently on 15mg, down from 45 mg. I have been reducing the dose very slowly. My new Dr wanted me to discontinue due to possible drug interactions with other medications. I have been doing well with the taper thus far.
I hope all of your medications are helping you out. Life is challenging enough all by itself.

I take 7.5 at bedtime, and sleep through the night… almost too long, at times. Not sure if it’s helping my major anxiety as yet as I still wake up anxious. Im also taking 15 mg of Escitalopram at night. Which medications is your new doctor worried about interactions?

I've been taking Mirtazapine nightly over a year. It did the trick for me ie gained weight, which was needed and slept through the night 9- 10 hours!
No side effects noted.

I started taking a low dose (half pill) of Mirtazapine a week ago, for insomnia. My Dr. thinks is better that Quietapine in the long run because of its potential risk for dementia and stroke. So far is working, allows me to sleep about 6 hours, the only side effect is on my eyes, I wake up with a lot of pressure on them and a bit blurry. Will see my opthomologyst to check that out.
