Anyone have knowledge of rare cancer fetal adenocarcinoma ?

Posted by gprior @gprior, Jan 16 3:47pm

My husband has been diagnosed with fetal adenocarcinoma, a rare form of lung cancer that has spread to his brain, spleen and pelvic bone. He's had brain surgery to remove the tumours and has now been advised he has about 6 months to live without treatment or 12 to 18 months with quite aggressive treatment which may cause some serious issues. We have to decide quality or quantity, as so many of us with cancer have to do.. thoughts please, would be so welcome 🙏

@gprior, I hope the appointment with oncology went well, and that you both got some questions answered. Many people are given combinations of types of chemo and immunotherapy and they do ok. I understand that the decisions in front of both of you are highly personal and never easy. Sending you hugs.

@lls8000 i agree that many people handle a combination of chemo and immuno quite well and live a stronger and longer time, my hubby is weighing up in his mind if the risk is worth just an extra 6 or 12 months, he thinks if it would "cure" him it would be worth it. Anyhow it is his appt today so we shall see what his decision will be .🙏

We saw the oncologist and my husband said to her that hw will accept the radiotherapy but has decided not to have further treatment as in chemo and immunotherapy, she replied that she thought it was a wise choice. I and our family felt relief when she said that as we were concerned if he was making the right choice. He is content with his decision and just wants to enjoy as much life as he can while he can. He is in a lot of pain especially with his hip so his meds will be increased. His fetal adenocarcinoma is H FLAC, very aggressive apparently. 🙏

Sending an abundance of hope that the radiation works rapidly to reduce the pain. Thank you for this update.

@gprior, the important part is that he is content with the decision. It’s hard when we may not always agree with the patient, but it’s ultimately his decision. I wish he had received better news. This is a tough diagnosis. I hope the pain subsides so you can both enjoy some time doing whatever it is that you enjoy together. Sending hugs.

Thanks to all of you for your very kind thoughts and wishes. We too hope that the radiotherapy helps his hip pain and the increased meds do also. There is a bumpy road ahead for the next months and we will certainly enjoy each moment of happiness that we can. Will keep you informed. 🙏

This dreadful fetal adenocarcinoma has taken its toll on my dear husband and he passed away on 11th
March exactly 3 month after the day of diagnosis. I and my family cannot believe the speed with which it took hold of his body and brought down a strong previously healthy man. 🙏 . Glor
