Anybody having nasal congestion issues lying down at night?
I am having congestion issues at night its been 4 years. Everytime i wake up during the night and one of my nostril is completely blocked , it is the most ANNOYING thing , gives me frequent headaches. Once i stand back up after a few minutes it unclogs...Ive already had two turbinate reductions + septoplasty but it didnt help at all. The nasal sprays dont work no more. If you relate to this post please let me know if some things brought you relief, thank you.

Most likely the original issue was not addressed or addressed inappropriately.
If you didn’t experience this before nasal surgery, then most likely a consequence of.
If you did experience this before surgery then I would address some other issues. Nasal congestion is caused by many thing. Lifestyle changes, exercise, environmental can all be causes of congestion.
Laying flat is typically due to the change in blood pressure.
yes it was the same before surgery , not better or worse since....pretty weird i go to sleep with my nose completely unblock and wake up in the middle of the night with one side completely blocked....been 4 years , tried so many different things .
Hi Benchi300,
My husband and I have similar issues with clogged nasal passages at night when trying to sleep. We put Mentholatum in our noses at bedtime. It works very well for the entire night. Hope this helps!

Ask your primary about azalascteine/Astepro - it has been an awesome additional to our nasal allergy problem. It is a prescription or over the counter med, inhaled through the nose twice a day.
My left nostril always blocks. Massaging the left sinus cavity works very well to loosen it for a few hours.
I have been dealing with this for years as well. Seems much worse in the winter and of course when I get a cold. We run a humidifier in the winter. The only thing that works for me is Neo Synephrine, but as you know it is recommended not to use it more than 3 days. I have been on Flonase for years and really do not see a benefit. I use the Breatherite strips as well. Went to 2 ENT doctors and it seems they don't listen or provide any help. I am ready to go to my 4th ENT doctor. A dab of Vicks at each nostril sometimes helps. To complicate matters more I now need to use a CPAP with full face mask. That puts some pressure on my nose and sometimes restricts the passage ways via external pressure.
Is it that you're 'stuffed up'? I have heavy duty post nasal drip and it starts the minute I lay down at night. Not sure if this is the same thing you're dealing with. BUT, I gather your nose gets super dry? I had been using Secaris, Vicks, etc. but I finally have a perfect solution! AQUAPHOR. I've checked and it's safe to use. I originally had it for an outbreak of exzema. My nose now is always clear and breathing is easier.

Careful with the Flonase as steroid nasal sprays are known to cause dryness. And long term usage has not really been studied. Skin is skin and the nasal epithelial skin is so delicate. It’s hard for people to use topical steroids continuously on regular skin without causing skin atrophy.
It’s amazing to me that most topical steroid treatments for skin conditions is on an as needed basis, but with these nasal sprays people are told to use them daily with no end in sight. I (personally) believe you trade one thing for another. IF allergies are truly your issue, you shrink the tissue, yet then cause dryness and irritation.
I person think OTC nasa steroids are promoted too loosely. And can cause harm to certain people. So if it’s not doing much for you, I’d consult with your doctor if this is now the possible reason for your dryness and congestion.
Not sure I would say dryness. It seems that my nasal passage just swells and closes. I think I am on too much Steroids. Generic Flonase and Prednisone. I actually stopped taking the generic Flonase for a time because I see no results. Then I had the severe ear ache and resulting hearing loss and the ENT doc told me to start taking it again plus Azelastine, which also has not produced any noticeable results.
Gave up on Azelastine, Flonase, Nasacort etc,. After years, Did feel they made me worse. Got a nifty face steamer from Vicks, use Saline spray before bed and upon waking. AYR makes a saline gel with aloe that helps when really bad. My Harvard ENT rec a product called Ponaris, awesome stuff developed for astronauts . Has very small amount of iodine , like Betadine Cold Nasal spray which helps reduce viral loads too. Gave up on all antihistamines, Allegra , Zertec , Zysal , etc etc. Keep Afrin spray for very minimal use and Omnaris for when my head is like a cement brick. Hope this helps, Good Luck to all who suffer.
