Anybody have hypertension crisis what I call “attacks” now and then ?

Posted by jwillits8 @jwillits8, Aug 8, 2023

I’m 69 yr old and have been having hypertension crisis attacks with unknown/unsolved reasons. Drs focus on blood pressure meds and not the reason why I’m having them. The attacks leave me weak and unsteady a few days after. Being tested for any tumors in kidneys and hormones. Feels like something builds up in my system before these high blood pressure attacks.

@lasks I see a neurologist for Botox injections in neck as I have cervical Dystonia. I will mention it to him in October when I see him. I also sent a message to a doctor I’m seeing for this and mentioned the autoimmune encephalitis.

Hope you are able to get some answers. I’ll be interested in how things go.

@jwillits8 I don’t know if waiting until October is a good idea. See if you can get an appointment with the doctor you mentioned or your primary care doctor. Have you had any serious symptoms since you collapsed 2 years ago? Your primary care doctor can help you get started on seeing the right people.
Will you call for an appointment?

Dear Jwillits, I am so sorry you are having that problem and hope it is solved very soon!

This is so obvious that I’m hesitant to mention it: do you avoid all forms of salt? Prepared soups are the worst, especially dry cup of soup to which one “just adds water.” Wishing you well. Drinking plenty of water while also avoiding caffeine is important too.

@raye I do avoid salt however my salt intake is low so I add a bit to my eggs. I drink lots of water. No caffeine
A cardio doctor just changed my BP pills and I feel much better- sleep well and no more daytime naps.

I add no salt at all to anything. Not even soy sauce which is 20% salt. Sometimes takeout foods have some though. Could you maybe be receptive to adding different seasoning to your eggs? It was a tradition of my father to add a drop of Tabasco sauce to his egg yolk.

Chipotle powder is like technicolor pepper. Available by the packet in international markets. A pinch might be good with your eggs. Or try nutmeg and French tarragon, or thinly chopped onion. Getting creative is rewarding! Enjoy!

Glad the new RX is helping!
