Any women over 50 on HRT for symptoms?
I’m supposed to start hrt Im post menopause but still have some symptoms, and family history of osteoporosis and heart issues. I heard nightmares about some women having reactions to progesterone. Has anyone had a good experience?

I just restarted hrt at 74. Many reasons for getting back into it. I had many concerns due to my age but with scans and blood work that came back all good, it's now 1 month in. And my hair has now stopped falling out. So excited.
Last time with hrt 5 yrs ago, I stopped cold turkey.... DO not do that. Y have to slowly go off it.
The Mayo News Network has posted some great information on menopause. I found this article interesting.

Can we post about anything new that we've learned?
Hi @nat1970. I am 75 years old and I have been on HRT since having a complete hysterectomy at 28 years of age. I had to fight and switch doctors because they kept wanting to take me off HRT. I only take the Climara Patch. I started out with regular strength pills after the hysterectomy, but I drenched the bedding in the hospital 3 days straight, 2-3 times a day from profuse sweating. They upped the dosage and I stayed on the pills until the Climara Patch came out. I am not alone in the number of women who cannot take the generic patch, so I stick with the Real McCoy, Climara Patch, and I wear the patch on my abdomen in the area of where my ovaries would have been and change it every Sunday morning and alternate sides so it remains as natural as it can be. My issue was the doctors that wouldn't leave me alone and kept trying to take me off. When they removed my 2nd ovary, 12 weeks after the first one was taken, my cholesterol jumped from 170 to 310 in the 3 days in the hospital. SO IT ISN'T TAKING HRT THAT INCREASES THE CHOLESTEROL; they didn't start me on it for 48 hours after the surgery. My cholesterol does not respond to any treatments. I took the Lipitor for 3 years before having severe muscular issues. It started off dropping the cholesterol, but it came back up over a 2-3 month period and stayed at 250-270 without my ovaries. I fell for the "ballyhoo" about getting off HRT, only to find it drastically changed my personality, making me a tad crazy, probably because of lack of sleep from throwing the blankets on and off all night long and sweating buckets and having to change clothes at least twice a day, and getting up in the middle of the night to change the sheets. Between the ages of 45-50 we made 5 attempts to get me off HRT, and I am miserable without it. Another SIDE EFFECT they seemed to be unaware of by trying to remove me from the Climara Patch was I LOST 2-1/4 INCHES IN HEIGHT. I was only 5'4" to begin with and have short legs and no height from the abdomen to the groin, but that is where I lost my height and squished all those organs and intestines into that much less space. As soon as I got back on my Climara Patch I told them NEVER AGAIN, or I'll have to cut the legs off the table or get a high chair to eat at the table. They tried to tell me it wasn't the patch keeping my bones healthy, but I have that bone density test every 5 years and it hasn't changed a lick, my height stays the same and my bones are in good shape. My entire family had heart issues, but it was our diets and far too many carbs that caused that, not HRT. At 75, I am still walking 2-3 miles a day, and taking good sized hills. I went out to Washington State to visit friends and we hiked up the sides of the mountains out there in 2018; I was the oldest of the hikers and in the lead all the time. I stay active and I stay proactive in my own health care, because after 75 years I know what works and what doesn't work. I stay as far away from any of the new drugs they have created for today as I can. I am on 25 mg of Cozaar for high BP, and my Climara and six supplements every morning. I left two doctors gung ho on getting me off the HRT, because I'm not going through all that again to prove something to them that I already know. Thus far, at 75, my annual mammograms have come back normal and I have heavy density breast tissue. If you're not having issues with hot flashes and sleep and bone loss or vaginal dryness you probably don't need HRT. If you are, only you know what is best for you, but I am one from the other side, and I will be wearing my Climara Patch on my abdomen until they have to remove it before I am cremated. I will say that I would not take any of the pills. The Climara Patch comes in all different strengths and as long as I stayed with the non-generic patch, all goes well. The generic breaks me out in hives beneath it, and won't stick to my body when I'm sweating. My undies didn't have hot flashes but I did. I buy mine without insurance and get them at Costco, because they have the best prices if you are a member and without prescription insurance. With the insurance, BTW, it cost me more out of pocket then without it. Just saying!!! This world is no longer what it used to be. A senior citizen and insurance raised the deductible to $500, wouldn't pay squat for the two non-generic meds I take, and they paid -0- for the generic antibiotic I had to use from time-to-time. I ditched the insurance and the pharmacy and became a member at Costco, so I could use their pharmacy and get far better costs for my scripts. Insurance fought me constantly and I had to get pre-authorizations to get a script that I can't take generics for. I could not believe when I dropped the insurance and the pharmacy, that I didn't pay a third for what I was paying before, and I don't have to fight with anyone over taking what I don't have an allergy to. When an insurance company can require me to try 3 other generic meds causing me ungodly side effects, and one was Gabipentin (spelling) an anti-seizure medication, that you can't just stop taking without the possibility of having seizures which have never been a part of my medical history -- there is something wrong with this world. The headache was horrific and I stopped it on the 2nd day, changed doctors and pharmacies and why I say, ONLY YOU KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU.
