Any success stories about Evenity to share with fearful me?

Posted by callmekate @callmekate, Aug 23 8:57pm

After acquiring 2 compression fractures, I am biting the bullet and going for my first Evenity shot in 2 days. I am afraid of everything from heart palpitations (I have AFIB) to muscle spasms and joint pain and everything else . Has anyone been ok on the shots? Or only had minor issues? I would love to read encouraging words. My REMS scores were ok: hip -1.0, spine -1.2, but my DEXA scores were much worse: hip -2.8, spine-4.8, so I feel I have little choice now. Many thanks.

No, I had it done just now at the hospital's cancer clinic, where they do infusions, too. So far, so good. My compression oain is immense this morning and I know some of that is due to anxiety. Hopefully that will subside now that the deed is done, so to speak.

Could you explain compression pain?

Would this be the first time taking drugs?

Would it be OK to ask why you switched from Tymlos to Evenity?

Hi completed 12 months of shots - at infusion center. No big issues, except the following; slightly tender at injection site in arms - as soon as we moved it to stomach that went away/ light headache for a few hours after and the next day ‘almost feeling like I’m getting the flue for a few hours, then back to normal- no more issues after that. It must be brought up to room temperature before injections take place. The skin should NOT be squeezed and slowly inject the stuff by nurse. My doctor told me to have juice and cookie snack at center when I arrive before getting shot ( this gets your metabolism working and makes it easier for the medicine to get into system versus it fighting your body) I never took any pain med as I followed my docs advise that worked for me ( each of us is different, so you may have to adjust as needed) my DEXA scan had a 16.92% bone density increase - both doc and I very happy 🙂 now just started Fosomax - no issues so far. Best of luck ! You got this - I noticed for myself that the more I dived into the internet, read reviews of issues and all the bad things - the more anxious I got, so I stopped.

I switched from Prolia to Evinity as a supposedly promotes more bone growth. We’ll see. I was willing to try anything.

I’m impressed you are giving your self evenity! I have had 4 months of shots…in abdomen. I wait 10 min or so,then leave. Get them at Infusion for Health center. NP administers.
Sore injection site, but bearable. I have joint pain and occasional headaches after. Dr prefers I take Aleve or aleve pm. I take aleve pm a few nights a week if I’m having joint pain. Helps with night joint pain.

I have had five injections so far. Depending on the person that gives a shot, sometimes it hurts a little afterward, but supposedly if they warm up the shot, it hurts less. as far as I can see I’ve had no side effects. I have had multiple compression fractures and a serious femur fracture. At this point, I was willing to try anything as my bone density is so poor. Hopefully after the regimen I will have obtain some new bone growth. I have been taking Prolia up to now, but that doesn’t seem to have decreased my bone loss.

How long were you on Prolia?

I am on my 5th shot in the stomach and no promouced side effects. I do not do any prep but make sure I am hydrated. I have Some injection site soreness depending on who aministers the shot. I use an arnica cream to reduce that soreness if needed. Minor muscle joint pain about 7 days after shot and some fatque. But all in all much more tolerable than tymlos ( whihc gave me tremendous heart palpations, weakness and stomach pain) . Try not to be fearful.... make peace with the decision and aim for best possible result. Sending positve energy for healing support.

I've only had 1 injection and go in later this week for the 2nd. I took Tylenol before going in but once that wore off I have to say the injection sites were vert painful; I had to take Advil 2 nights in a row. The medication was warmed up beforehand. However, I asked for cold numbing spray prior to getting the injections (like I do when I get gel injections or cortisone in my knee) and that certainly helped with not feeling the sting of the syringes.

I found that the way the injections were adminstered made a big difference in injection site soreness. The syringes need to be room temp, and for me the injections need to be smooth and quick and adminstered at an angle into a nice pinched roll of fat in the stomach. If there is soreness, try an arnica cream ( inflamayar by pekana- german company). Hope this helps
