Anyone change from methotrexate to leflunamide? Side effects?

I switched a few years ago. Only change I noticed was that Leflunomide bothered my sleep pattern. Had to stop using it eventually.

@kmacky Thank you for response. I am switching because I think methotrexate was causing fatigue. Did you have that side effect?

REPLY

Yes- I had extreme fatigue as well as brain fog. I was taking it with prednisone at the time- and not sure if it was the combination or just the methotrexate.

Yes - I have noticed significant fatigue after 3 months on Methotrexate single agent and eventually stopped the drug. My doctors were saying that Methotrexate could not do that, but that type of deep fatigue with dizziness and brain fog went away after drug discontinuation. I still think those symptoms were related to Methotrexate.

@altabiznet I was so desperately weak and fatigued and felt positively ill from the inside with methotrexate. Changed to
Leflunomide and absolutely fine from the start. Helped with feet pain, psoriatic arthritis symptoms.

@shaelingrid thank you for your response. I am hopeful that I will have same response. I am very fatigued as well.

@altabiznet thank you for response. My rheumatologist thought methotrexate could be the culprit. It says fatigue is a side effect in several medical sites on line. I’m hoping!!!

@lgreg My rheumatologist chose leflunamide over methotrexate for my RA specifically because it has fewer side effects like fatigue and brain fog. When I was (initially) taking it with prednisone my sleep was affected, but now that we have tapered off the prednisone my sleep patterns are normal.
