Any Disseminated Superficial Actinic Porokeratosis (DSAP)
Hello,
I’m an 82 year old senior with DSAP diagnosed in my early 30’s.
“DSAP is a non- contagious skin condition with apparent genetic origin in the SART 3 gene. It most often occurs in sun-exposed area of the body”
Over the years I have tried a multiple treatment modalities to no avail including the extremely expensive Lovastatin 2% plus cholesterol 2% (latest study suggests cholesterol may not be needed in the formulation) to no avail!
Have been using EFFUDEX 5% for years which has done nothing to mitigate multiple new lesions occurring resulting in extensive lesions on my extremities & back & to a lesser extent on my abdomen ,face & ears.
I would be very grateful to hear of any treatment that has worked for others in treating this condition

My spots start out feeling an intense sting like sensation, then intense itch. Even slight scratching results in bleeding. I don’t think I’ve ever read anyone else who had it or saw pics like it. Which puzzles me that my dermatologist says it’s psoriasis. I use cortisone, but can’t say it helps. Sigh. I tend to have it in flares. Sometimes there are months with no problem.
If you have months where there are no problems then do not have DSAP (disseminating superficial actinic porokeratosis) 🙂as it is chronic & the spots never go away and there are always new ones
Thanks.
I too have tried Effudex (It burned my skin! Very uncomfortable and I discontinued using it) and cholesterol ointment...it felt like I was wearing Vaseline all over my body! Hated how it felt and it was expensive. I discontinued using that as well. I have told my dermatologist(s) that I do not want to use ANY cream/ointment etc. because 1. I do not think they really work 2. I was told you have to keep on using it forever 3. $$$ and 4. I don't want my skin to burn/hurt feel worse than it already is! I will live with the spots. They do not hurt me, they are just ugly. I use a very rich body cream morning and night (Cetaphil)
I have had DSAP for many many years. Seen multiple dermatologist. I have had some on my face bleed and become very bad. I have tried many different things to make it better. I alos have dry thin skin. I am 78 years old and grew up in the South. We didn't have sunscreen back then and instead put baby oil and iodine on our skin. I never had a tan because my skin burned. I wear long sleeves and long pants all year long. If I am going to be in the sun, I put sunscreen on all over. I always wear sunscreen on my face. I used moisturizing shower products for years which did not help. Recently I have found LaRoche-Posey shower oil to be much better for my skin. I also use Cerva moisturizer all over my skin. I have a compromised immune system and a stressful life that doesn't help.
