Annual (TeleMed) Powwow with my lovable Pulmo

Results of Spirometry happily reveal no decline in measured functions from a year ago. I told him he must be taking good care of me. He countered; “your taking good care of yourself.” Perceptive doc! 👍
I asked for a sputum culture for MAC which will take a few days. Probably a waste of time and money as, so far as I know, it’s a binary issue, ya got it or ya don’t and a culture, unlike a CT scan, doesn’t reveal degree of severity. I’m probably hoping for the impossible: a negative culture. Don

I'm hoping with you but I have a feeling.....not so good for me but I think your sample will be great!

Great news Don! If they do a full MAC culture, they can do a count of colonies which gives an idea of severity. You are doing everything you can, so maybe it will show a decline in severity!

Sue, Does the Mayo Clinic lab provide a colony count? I have not been told how many colonies I have.

Thanks for your good wishes gej. I think the sorta bizarre aspect of day after day “hosing up” to machine that seems bent on scrambling my brain led me to cultivate a sanguine, whisical attitude toward the whole enterprise. Don

My tests are done by the Minnesota Dept of Health, with the sensitivity testing done by NJH (National Jewish Health.) While the colony counts are not given to me unless I ask, my doc has them - so I don't know which lab provides them. Instead the report I get says one, few, some or many... Labs that specialize in cultures do colony counts, it just depends on who it is reported to - you or your doc - and how is is communicated on to you.
Another example of how we have to stay on top of things with these ailments and ask a lot of questions.
