When a root canal becomes a blessing
The strangest thing has happened. After a MAC infection in 2020, I was left with a chronic cough, but could not bring anything up. After years of lost sleep, smart vest and frustration, my husband found this site and that is where I learned about postural drainage. I was finally able to clear mucous from my lungs, but still had my cough.
Last December I needed a root canal and was given a ten day course of amoxicillin . Around day two, I noticed a decrease in coughing, and have been cough free since then. I really don't know what to think. Was I carrying some form of infection in my body all that time that was undiagnosed? If so, what could it have been? I am not looking a gift horse in the mouth, believe me, but any thoughts you might have would be greatly appreciated.

Have you had recent sputum cultures?
@pled Are you still being seen by your pulmonologist regularly?
@scoop During the first two or three years I tried repeatedly to give samples for testing, but they contained saliva, not sputum. After I started bring mucous up, I tried again but my sample was not acceptable then either. My pulmonologist then ordered a scan which of course showed areas of mucous.
