Amlodipine insomnia, muscle spasms, constipation

I only take it if my Blood Pressure is above 140. Otherwise in the 130's I take Metoprolol Tartrate.
In the 120's or below -nothing.

Have you tried taking it in the morning instead?

@desertdwellerjh I take Lisinopril mornings and Metoprolol afternoons. Spreading it out per doc's instructions.

Hi, I take amlodipine 5mg in the morning. I don’t have any trouble sleeping, muscle spasms or constipation. However I do have swelling in my feet and legs. I would like to switch the Amlodipine for a different medication because the edema is concerning.

@joyster15 I had hard calves due to Amlodipine. My meds were changed.
According to my cardiologist:
Take Amlodipine is BP is >140 Otherwise take Metoprolol if in the upper 120's and the 130's.

Since my blood pressure is well-controlled, I addressed the edema issue with my cardiologist, asking to stop amlodipine. He explained that amlodipine IN COMBINATION WITH my other blood pressure medication and Repatha (for cholesterol), was important in slowing the progression of coronary artery disease and treating periodic angina. And that there are studies on point, some of which I have read (lots of medical terms & statistics in them.)
Since coronary artery disease and strokes kill and disable MANY people in my family, I tolerate the mild edema from it.

I find it helps a lot to limit sodium in my diet, walk a lot to move the fluid, and elevate my legs when possible.

Have you talked to your doctor about changing medication?

Hi, not yet. My edema isn’t mild. I would say it is moderate. I notify my doctor through email about a possible change in medication. Thanks for your post.

@grrranny Hi, do you have any side effects with the Lisinopril? Any swelling of your legs, etc?

@joyster15 some swelling thought was due to Amlodipine. did not know Lisinopril could cause swelling

Does Lisinopril cause swelling of the legs as a side effect?
