I have Sotolol on board and a pacemaker. No afib for more than 2 years. However, 2 ablations have left me with tachycardia bouts and I am currently trying to avoid the last resort AV Node ablation.
so about a month ago, my PVC's were in the 500+/hour range.
few weeks ago I did a Zio holter for 7 days - I had started eating bananas. It reported my PVC's at the 300+/- an hour range. Started some Taurine and L-Arginine and am now down to 125/hour - the Sotalol is in the rear view mirror - for now.
in my case, minerals (potassium and magnesium) seem to be involved.
what started me was I discovered I was on a potassium wasting diuretic Chlorthalidone) - which has now also been stopped.

I don't think ablation is a good option as everyone I know that has had ablation have had several repeats. That is fine for whoever is doing it, but it sure affects your insurance.
I am on Amiodarone, supposed to be on 200mg a day. That kills my energy and caused a lot of other irritations in my daily life. I did a lot of studying and read a paper on the efficiacy of 100mg compared to 200mg. After 18 months I cut the pills in half, 100mg a day. Feel a lot better but still wary of this drug. My primary calls it poison and my cardiologist wants me to switch to Sotalol. I might not be a doctor but I can read and my comprhension skills are good. I personally am holding off on that switch which would require that I stop Metoprolol 2 x 100mg and the Amiodarone and go on bidaily Sotalol.
It's all poison. My current regimen is 2.5mg Amlodipine, 200mg Metoprolol and 120mg Verapamil and 100mg Amiodaroneper day. I think I am starting to get blurred vision and last US shows Pancreatic issues.
I have AFIB and am on 200 mg amiodarone per day and 12 mg metoprolol per day and 110 mg dabigatran (prodaxa) . All for 2 months. I too have blurred vision. Hope yours improves,
Speak to your Cardiologist. 2 points, If you go to Sotalol you can dump the Amiodarone. I went to 100mg by myself after reading up on it. I found there was little or no difference between 200mg and 100mg effect. Pill cutters have worked wonders in my life. If you go to Sotalol you can dump Metoprolol as the Sotalol will do both jobs. I think Metoprolol is chemical castration, at least it was for me.
Pradaxa /Warfarin I refuse to take because I bleed easily. I take a 325mg Aspirin once a day instead. If I go for surgery I do an 81mg for a week before. You might need this but the side effects are not something I want.
Amlodipine keeps my BP down nicely. I suggest you do some reading and have a serious talk with your Cardiologist. They tend to lump everyone together somewhat so you have to get their attention. I am fortunate to have one that listens finally and my NP in his office is awesome. Confidence in your caregiver is very important!
My vision is still affected but not as much as it was on Amiodarone. I think it is slowly recovering.

Would be interested in this as well ... per facing the potential of having one of these these being prescribed near term.

You feel the Ablations cause you’re tachycardia?
Tachycardia caused by two ablation procedures
Thanks so much for sharing your experiences.

Just to confirm, I went from 200mg to 100mg on the Amiodarone
