Am I losing it too?

Posted by wtr2026 @wtr2026, 2 days ago

Two weeks ago, I had my annual wellness visit and I scored 100% on the memory test, including counting back by 7's. Last week, my husband's brain PET Scan results came into MyChart. He has Alzheimer's. Since then, we have looked at senior living communities in person and rented an apartment near our children. I feel as if I can't remember anything and I think I misplaced my son's house key. I don't want to think I am losing it, yet that's how it feels. Very worried. Has anyone experienced this and did it resolve for you? Thank you!

I am currently the only one awake, so I said, "Happy f@#&ing birthday" to myself.
Life is so weird right now, like we're all in a bad movie.
I will attempt to enjoy my birthday today, thanks so much for your kind words. 🤗

I felt that way yesterday! Forgot groceries in the car because I rushed in the house because we had a visitor! Seems there is so much to do, since you are thinking for two people. Seems like I’m living with a guest in my house sometimes, he rarely takes an active role or sees what needs to be done. It’s exhausting both mentally and physically. I’m looking forward to moving to a CCRC when it’s available. This situation is tough and we must give ourselves grace as maneuver through this new life!

@dsand3 Oh wow, thank you for sharing the example of leaving groceries in the car - I feel better for reading that even though I am also sorry you had that experience. We looked at CCRC's this week and chose the one we like best. I read a post about completing the paperwork for memory care early (as in now) so that if something happens - such as an unexpected injury or medical issue for us - the paperwork is already done. I'm going to ask the CCRC we like if it is possible to do that there. Thank you again - I can see myself leaving groceries in the car and will feel better when it happens. Grace!

@wtr2026, I only hope that my little input will help you deal with the tasks ahead. As to how I dealt with maintaining my health - at my age, it was mostly luck I suppose. However, what I did do, as I always did, was to follow the routine I was accustomed to after 22 years in the military - kept up with the necessary shots (Flu & Covid), and had an annual flight physical. The time was no problem, because I had/have framily on whom I could/can call on when I needed to leave the house. Of course everyone is different when it comes to our health - so my advice to you is to just be aware of possible illnesses or infections and have them taken care of ASAP . If you're the sole caregiver, your health is paramount. As I've said frequently - you have take care of yourself, if you want to take care of your LO. Good luck and wishing you all the best.

@fred1 Thank you - you have a history of discipline! I appreciate your advice about getting illnesses or infections taken care of ASAP. I am always hesitant to take my physician's time until there's no other option. I'm putting your good advice on my reminder list so I don't forget it. Thank you again!
