Am I doing this right? Preparing for my first appointment at Mayo
This is probably just me not liking the unknown, but is it normal to have an appointment for evaluation on Monday, but not have an itinerary or any info other than the appointment? I don’t even know the name of the doctor I’m seeing. I’ve seen many people who know how long they’re staying, who they’re seeing, and all the tests they’d do, but I don’t know anything other than the evaluation is Monday. Will I get any more info before that day? Or will I just get all my information at the evaluation?

@ccallaha1 after self referring within a couple days I had a phone interview with someone from Mayo in March 2026 and the lady said she would get my records at the end of the phone call and I should have a decision on whether I would be offered an appt within about 10 business days. A week after this interview Mayo had all my records without me having to do anything. They had my records all the way back from 2013 from Cleveland Clinic, the ortho group I use, Northwestern Hosp., and everything from my LiveWell app. It was amazing how technology works. The Mayo app displayed things I never saw like my 180 MRI pics. I was offered an appt very shortly after they rec’d the final item - MRI pics. You can track what records Mayo has rec’d through their app. Time between self referring and my appt was less than a month but I know this can vary for everyone. The entire process was highly organized. Best of luck.

3 Reactions@ccallaha1 My cardiologist referred me. All of my tests and other information was sent quickly and I was accepted as a patient within a week or two.

Great feedback and I agree with @mamma2lucy, @walkinggirl and @gangcarotid1. Self-referral or having your doctor request an appointment are both great options.
Truly, it is simple. Follow this link and contact Mayo Clinic. They will let you know steps: http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63
Please, do come back and comment how it goes and/or if you have other questions.
If you are comfortable sharing, what brings you to Mayo Connect and looking to make any appointment?

6 ReactionsIt’s also possible that after your initial appointment the direction of your visit could dramatically change. My cardiologist referred me. The initial triage group thought I would need the long covid folks and dysautonomia help. However, the long covid folks needed me to clear cardiology testing first. My Mayo cardiologists thought that would be easily done. It wasn’t. I was diagnosed with HFpEF and never saw the Long Covid folks.

2 Reactions@jlharsh thank you for posting the link. While I’m in Los Angeles, my sister is in Jacksonville, not far from Mayo there. While my diagnosis of FMD is recent after my 5/27/26 carotid angiogram, yesterday I had a CTA of chest, pelvis, abdomen received the results that FMD is noted in both renal arteries and rt iliac artery in addition to my left ICA. My neurologist has replied that we will monitor, and I follow up with my Interventional Neuroradiologist in 12 days, so I’ll get his feedback but am thinking to come pay sister a visit in the fall and would like to get the Mayo-Jax FMD specialists to weigh in.
You providing the link is timely, thank you!😊

3 Reactions@aldine, I am so glad to see you comment here. I have been searching Connect from the Heart & Blood Support Group and home page to find members discussing Fibromuscular Dysplasia (FMD) in Los Angeles after reading the related discussion you posted. https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/fmd-specialists-in-los-angeles/
I cannot speak highly enough about my Mayo experience, though in Rochester. Having a sister close by sure makes it easier for you to get another look at what is going on.
I am adding a link to Mayo Clinic’s overview about FMD in case you have not seen it. Once you link through the description, diagnosis and treatment pages you will find providers, listing two in Jacksonville specializing in FMD.

I am interested to hear how you are doing and now your journey continues. It may take a while to get it so making contact sooner than later may be beneficial.
Will you come back and comment as you have updates?
