My mom is 96 with Alz. As a social worker for many year's, I have been able to access many resources. I would like to pass this on to anyone going through this with their family. Join Alz. Association and you will get tons of information. If you have a smart phone, they send daily updates of the latest research. Join Alz. support group, ask your Hospice Asso. to do an assessment as many elderly are eligible if they have other medical issues. Insist your physician writes a scrip for home healthcare. They can set up meds, do light housework and shop. These little things help so much. Good Luck with your family. Your not alone.

We began this journey 10 years ago. Thank you for your kind words. We are very fortunate as my mom has not been aggressive but, very sweet in her disposition. This is not always the case for all families. I would recommended a book that was written by a coach...small handbook that is wonderful. I don't have his name at the moment but, if you go on-line you would find it i'm sure. We are in Michigan. My son lives in Blaine, Mn. so visit often.

The reason I inquired about residency had to do with the availability of the Alz Assn. Are you referring to the state organization or the national? I used to live in Blaine, by the way. 🙂

I, too, am very surprised not to see a dementia/Alz discussion per se. Try Caring.com We have an excellent group there

My husband has early onset alz. He is 58 years old and diagnosed at Mayo last August. I would like to chat with anyone who is experiencing the same situation.

We are dealing with Parkinsons and the Cognitive loss with it. My husband's tremor started 5 years ago and he still can play some golf. He can no longer drive and is feeling like a prisoner in his own home. I am trying to plan interesting days for him. His greatest loss is his ability to communicate and track conversations. We are looking for a support group to help us with coping with this.

Thanks to each of you for your information. I will be back as I learn more that might be helpful to others.

A book I was told to read is "The Thirty Hour Day." Cannot remember the author, but ii is available online (Amazon, B & N, etc.). It was my MD who recommended I read it, and altho some parts do not apply to my/spouse's situation, it is stratighforward, and easy to comprehend. Recommend.
