Almond Milk and GI symptoms from additive carrageenan
I thought I was doing something healthy by substituting Almond Milk instars of dairy milk. I am a 7 heart bypass survivor and a senior.
I am writing this to warn people about my experience.
I felt just terrible and didn't know why, until my wife researched what I had been consuming lately. It turns out that Almond Milk was the culprit.
I had nausea, severe stomach pain, bloating and gas all at once.
After 1 to 2 days it disappeared. I had the worst sleep of my life.
I just wanted to pass this along.
You think you are doing something good for yourself and Yikes, that was a mistake.

Thank you for this. I have just finished a carton of Almond milk. I started firstly getting abdominal pain, bloating and gas. I thought it was all the garlic we eat, but we've been eating that for years. Then I remembered the milk was a new addition! I've been looking up "how long do the symptoms last" as it's now been about 1 week. No more Almond milk for me.

2 ReactionsWow, I've been drinking almond milk (Silk unsweetened Vanilla) for over 20 years from when I first went Vegan. I don't think I had any of these problems. I also consume the Silk Almond Milk yogurt (vanilla and strawberry flavors). I also use the Herbivorous Butcher for plant based "meats" which I realize is highly processed foods. They also make cheeses -- almond milk, soy, coconut, oak milk -- of various styles, all plant based.
My daughter is trying to get me to eat Tuna and Salmon fish.
