Airway clearance and how I feel throughout the day

Posted by @ling @wangling, May 4, 2023

Hi everyone,
I know it might be a diffuse question, but let me try.
My pulmonologist told me if I do the airway clearance correctly. I
should feel clear of mucus during the day. I spend almost 30 minutes
doing it (flutter + autogenic drainage in the morning and evening). But throughout the day, I have to constantly clear out mucus most days. I am wondering what your experience is, is it normal for you? Maybe I am too sensitive about it.
Your experience is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks!
Ling

Sue I got a prescription for pari rapid and want to buy it. Is it easy to clean? I read all pages of instructions on line how to clean disinfect etc. I am not sure I can follow all this to keep it working.

@lilianna An alternative way to sterilize as I also own the eRapid. I soak in hot tap water with a drop of dawn for a few minutes to 20 minutes, rinse under running hot tap water (our water heater is set to 135+). Every few days after cleaning I pop in†o Bololo baby bottle sterilizer with distilled water in basin. It steam sterilizes for about 13 minutes.

The only issue I have had was when our hot water started to go and produced rusty water. In the beginning it was only slightly rusty but I did not catch it. After soaking and steaming the eRapid it was evident I needed to replace it because it was not operating properly. It was time to replace anyway, but I think the rusty water hastened its demise.

It's very easy to follow the direction with the help of a kitchen timer. I rinse under running water (mine is filtered), soak in soapy water then rinse in filtered water. After 2-3 nebs, after washing the pieces go in a pan of distilled water over a very low flame, and I set the timer for 10 minutes (about the time it takes my small saucepan to boil.) When it rings I check to be sure it is boiling, set the timer for 5 more minutes then turn off the burner when it rings and let it cool. I remove the pieces and dry on a clean paper towel. I save the distilled water (covered) to use 2 more times. My kitchen is in the center of my house, and is also my office, so I do the boiling when I will be nearby or while cooking. I use a round silicon trivet in the bottom of my pan to make sure the parts don't rest on hot metal, but I'm not sure it is necessary.
I not only love the speed of it, but am coming to love the very fine mist - it seems to act pretty fast.

Scoop, i ordered pari erapid so it’s on the way. You said you put it in bololo but is it for the sterilize cycle( how long) or the full cycle sterilize and dry and for how long- there is 30, 45, and 60 minutes. Thank you.

After soaking followed by rinsing, I sterilize in the Bololo for the full cycle of steaming and drying, I think it's around 60 minutes. I have the turn dial model not the digital so I do not know the exact time.

Thank you. I guess I have a recent model. One thing I don’t like about it is that comes with pretty big holes at the bottom of the sterilizing unit and the additional shelf also has big holes and small pieces fall through the holes- I melted one nebulizing part- fell to the bottom and landed on the heating part. Otherwise it’s ok

Scoop and sue. I got my pari erapid nebulizer, read a few times the instructions and used it first time with sodium chloride- it was very fast, 4 ml may be too fast because I think I tilted the handset. I need more practice. The first flow surprised me- I coughed and coughed. How do you breath through it so that you don’t cough. Another question- can you use levalbuterol and after the cycle finishes , pour sodium chloride without cleaning it? I am afraid to break the equipment. Thank you

Yes, you can use one neb after another and then clean it.

I slowed the flow by putting my tongue in front of the opening. Takes a little experimenting but now I don't cough when I do it.

I have not been an every day saline person for a while, but with this one, I have been doing 2 days on, one off, and my lungs are more clear.
