When air quality is poor, should HOCM, pacemaker patients avoid the out of doors?

Not knowing your medical history really hard to give you my experience with this.

So many things affect going outdoors with bad air quality. Do you have allergies, lung issues, bronchial issues, sinus issues? I have those things and I have a ICD/Pacemaker.

I am very sensitive to bad air and pollen. So on bad air qualilty days I walk inside my home. I have set up a walking route and do at least 20 minutes to still get my exercise.

Your questions would best be answered by your EP, or cardiologist who knows your complete medical history

May I add that it may be worth your while to find an alternate place to walk? Malls are great!

When I used to live in Vero Beach we had a huge mall at west end of town. Many residents inlcuding my wife and I walked there.

At one 55+ community I lived at (Solivita) actually had a cushioned indoor track.

I live no where close a mall now. All around me now are strip malls. I wish I was closer but would be almost a hour drive to get to one. For some reason the area I live in now has moderate to high winds all the time. All around us are conservation areas and preserves.

Another idea of how to walk indoors when no malls or indoor walking tracks are available: big stores (beginning with W, L, HD etc) have aisles one can walk up and down. Go at less busy times. Just another idea.

After my diagnosis we installed a Lennox HVAC system that uses MERV 16 filters and has 2 UV lights. Air quality is of great importance, less palpitations for me. Will not go outside with hot humid air.
