After knee replacement surgery
Had left knee replaced 9 days ago. Right knee two years ago. Having a problem with inflammation so hard to bend knee and exercise. Trying to ice and raise knee above heart. Doctor suggested getting compression hose. Anybody have this experience and can offer suggestions. So tired all the time from pain interrupting my sleep and painkillers. My insurance refused to pay for the painkiller recommended by surgeon so have to take one with more opiates. That's frustrating. Two years ago it was covered but now too expensive for me to use. Seems the drug companies, not our doctors are determining what we use.

Hi Mari: When did you have your injections? I can't seem to get to Dr. Thomas Vangsness with USC .The phone numbers don't work and calling USC directly has been frustrating. I would gladly drive from San Diego to LA to see him. Or maybe some one knows a resource in San Diego. I found one recommended Dr near here. His price is $650. per joint + the initial visit is $240. I'm so grateful for all of the information that comes on this chat site.
I agree about staying off the TKR. However, as an aside, I often (daily) feel a sharp twinge of pain in my TKR. I am 3 years post-op. The “twinges” started 2days after surgery. Have had the orthopedic surgeon check it out twice, new set of x-rays, plus an ultrasound. Nothing found. I’m puzzled and frustrated.
im over 5 years out. I have accepted the fact the pain is not going away and learn to live with it. Drs never told me of the possible bad side of tkr. Bad for business i guess. Sorry but no good answers for me. No do overs either. That is why i will not do the other knee.
Same here. The other knee needs to be done but I’m not going to go through that, at least unless it becomes unbearable at a later stage. I’m 62.
That is why i tried stem cells. Its expensive but no pain and no hospital stay and no p/t, it was worth the chance. So far so good. If i wan't so darn active acting like a 50 year old instead of 77 year old it would probably be better. As i tell people i shoot my age in golf, had a hole in one, bike 10 miles a day and do a lot of gardening.
I read of the people who talk of cost, but i weighed my options. In fact the hospital promedica is now giving their employees discounts to do stem cells.
Sorry I did not take it easy and rest a lot after SC. Did u notice a rejuvenation and strength after SC? Go SC!
I am also scheduled for a revision on my right knee. I have had my current replacement for 19 years (am 61 now). I have been informed that the surgery is 3 hours (so longer than original) but that rehab should be no different. I am scheduled for Thursday so we will see how it goes!
Please let us know how you’re doing. Best wishes for a success and speedy recovery.
Have you tried EMS unit, PT puts it on me but, i have one. EMS is better than Tens. Two patches Electric wires. Turn it on.
