Adenosquamous carcinoma of the pancreas (ASCP)

Posted by pasc22 @pasc22, Feb 22, 2023

I have adenosquamous pancreatic cancer, which is a rare sub-type. Does anyone else have this diagnosis? What treatment(s) are you receiving and how are you doing?

Hi Colleen,
Thanks for reaching out. I had a distal pancreatectomy in January 2022. The pathology report showed that it was adenosquamous. At that point my tumor was stage 1B with no lymph node involvement and negative surgical margins. I then had 6 months of chemotherapy with FOLFIRINOX. We were hoping for a cure or at least long-term remission. Unfortunately, my CT scan in January 2023 found metastases in my liver. I am now on gemcitabine + Abraxane.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of information about this sub-type and what treatments might work better against it than the standard ones for pancreatic adenocarcinoma. So, I was hoping to compare notes with others who are in my position. Thanks for directing me to kimberbee. I'd appreciate any other ideas you may have.

My husband was diagnosed with adenosquamous pancreatic cancer in Nov 2023. He had a partial pancreatectomy with removal of surrounding lymph nodes and removal of spleen. 2 lymph nodes came back positive. Staging was 2B. He had 6 mo of Folfirinox chemo and is currently cancer free. He had the sinatera MRD test done which came back negative as well. He will go back for CT & labs in Dec.

I am curious if anyone else with ASPC has taken the Sinatera test and if it was effective detecting this fairly rare type of pancreatic cancer?

@tkemper, you may be interested in this discussion where members of the pancreatic cancer group are talking about the Signatera test

Yes. It is a custom designed test with your tissue. Going forward, it is normally used when the tumor marker is in normal range or cancer appears to be NED or greatly minimized. It purports to show whether the cancer is in your blood stream prior to tumors evolving.
