Adding CARVEDILOL?

Posted by dynamited @dynamited, Mar 14 11:37am

I'm already taking Entresto, have a ICD due to sudden cardiac arrest, no prior history of disease and doctor suggests adding Carvedilol. My BP is 110/65 with 65 pulse. Why should I add more medicine?

It can help a post-cardiac arrest heart to function better, thus reducing the risk of a recurrent event:

@dynamited
I take both Entresto (generic now) and carvedilol. I am seen by a Heart Failure doctor at Mayo Jacksonville. Have been on this for over a decade. The two in combination provide a lot therapeutic help with heart failure, blood pressure, adrenaline suppression, etc.

Talk to your doctors about the benefits of both. And they do provide benefits. You should hear from your medical professional the pros and cons of any mediation you are put on.

Welcome to Connect, @dynamited! I see that you just joined us and that this is your first post. You are in the bionic group of participants, these ICDs can be lifesavers! I hope that your doctor explained how exactly the drug Carvedilol would benefit you. If he/she did not, please do ask. We are all willing to share our experiences as both @jc76 and @gloaming posted. Do learn as much as you can about your particular diagnosis and the drugs you are taking. The only heart medication I am taking is Metoprolol which is a beta blocker BP medication since a septal myectomy in 2022. How did you happen to suddenly have a sudden cardiac arrest? Again, welcome to Connect!
