5mg of prednisone longterm experiences?
I have read that 5mg of prednisone is equivalent to the cortisol produced by the body, hence not a concerning dose. I forgot to ask my doctor about this the other day, so I'm wondering if anyone knows about this.
I'm also curious how people have found taking 5mg of prednisone for a duration of a few months in terms of common side effects like moon face, etc. Are side effects less than higher doses like 20 mg?

Thank you so much for your response! I’m happy for you that you’ve been successful in getting off of the prednisone (and without withdrawal symptoms) and remained stable!
I’ve been on Prednisone since 2009. I had to start at 60mg because I had a severe brain inflammation. I gradually went down to 20mg and then over a few years, got to 10mg. I saw an endocrinologist and she said she wouldn’t even test my hormone levels until I was down to 5mg. Over the past year I very gradually got down to 5mg. It wasn’t easy - I had many flare ups during the process. My next step is to schedule another appointment with the endocrinologist.

1 ReactionI have 3 autoimmune diseases (as everyone here knows, they run in packs) but I take LD Prednisone for the RA. Every medication for RA is contraindicated for me so very grateful prednisone works. Also fortunate I was able to go from 10-15 mg per day about the first 6 months to down to 2.5 now as I will be on it for life. But at this low dose not too concerned. I have osteoporosis now, but it’s just over the line and my rheumy put me on Tymlos which not only seems to work great (will know more soon) but also makes me feel like I got a double dose of Pred. It supposedly has anti-inflammatory properties. I have read other patients feel the same. Anyway maybe I would feel differently if I were in my 20s but now am OK with taking LD prednisone
