First Calcium Heart Scan - 50 Years Old and Frightened!

Posted by marksr @marksr, May 23, 2021

I took my first calcium heart scan at 40 and it was zero. Now almost 51 , I just retook and it is 444 with 363 in my LAD. I immediately quit all the bad stuff like drinking and poor diet. I am anxious and super scared I can have an issue any minute!!! Any thoughts?

Hello,
I too had a false high calcium. The calcium identified in the heart saver CT was actually in the wall of my arteries, not actually in them. More testing will determine your outcome.

How did you find this out????

For what it's worth, I'm 60 and had a heart CT scan done in March this year that showed a score of 2534. Needless to say, I was in shock (especially since I considered myself pretty fit, always maintained my weight, exercised and walked, non-smoker, non-drinker).

I saw a cardiologist for the first time in my life this past April, had both an echocardiogram and nuclear stress test done and BOTH came back as normal. So, as someone else said, the only conclusion I can draw from that is that the calcium is either in the walls of my arteries or on the outside (reading from multiple reputable websites, the calcium/heart CT scans are very accurate). When I first got the news, I was put on 20mg of Crestor, which dramatically dropped my cholesterol scores in 6 weeks.

It's easy for me to say this now, but try not to worry too much until you have further tests done. That score (in my opinion) is not that high.
