10 years cancer free today!

On May 11, 2016 I had a right hemicolectomy to remove a cancerous growth right above the cecum. The tumor was stage 1. No chemo, no radiation. I feel blessed by God that I did not have to endure the treatments some of you have bravely faced. Still, there are the doctor appointments, blood tests, colonoscopies, etc. to remind me that my immune system at one time was unable to kill off the cancer.

I am so thankful for colonoscopies. I am so thankful for smart, caring skillful doctors. I am so thankful that God moved me to get my first screening colonoscopy at age 61.

PSA: encourage your family and friends to get their screening colonoscopies. I had no symptoms. If you wait until you have symptoms, then surgery only will not be curative. I hate for anyone to have to go through chemo or radiation if they can avoid it by catching this at stage 1.

Last Dec. I had a right hemicolectomy for a cancerous polyp (stage 1) in my caecum. I did not have to have chemo or radiation.
No symptoms other than chronic constipation, bloating and gas. I routinely had my colonoscopies every three years (non cancerous polyps found) as my mother had a history of colon cancer, found in her 80's. I started my routine colonoscopies in my 50's.
I will now be having routine colonoscopies every year as well as the CEA testing.
I as well am so thankful it was caught early and did not have to have further treatments.
I encourage friends and family as well to do routine colonoscopies, esp. if there is a family history.

@leanne004 Colonoscopy is the only screening test that can actually prevent the disease it is screening for. So happy yours was found early, too.
